Get ready for a loooong tenure... but not for the reason you think

Whats his buyout?
A lot more favorable to the University than Pruitt's.

100% of remaining amount if fired before end of 2023, 75% of remaining amount if fired before end of 2025 and 50% of remaining amount if fired before end of 2027. And it has a mitigation clause.

And that might be the secret to success. The pressure that has been put on the last 5-6 coaches and their staffs has not been reasonable. I believe it led to their failure. What good coaches and players would want to , as you say, get involved in this dumpster fire with unrealistic expectations. Want to cheer for a consistent winner? Become a Bama fan.

I will wholeheartedly disagree that the normal level of pressure at an SEC program lead to their failure. What led to their failure was that they never belonged as coaches in the SEC. They didn't have the correct skill sets.

Watch the following four games: Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt. If a coach cannot compete or win these games after 3 years, they are usually out. Also not losing embarrassing OOC games (Georgia State) will help. This is how the coach would and should be judged.
I love our mindset now. It’s great and I’m not making fun at all. We used to hope to beat Georgia, Florida, and Bama. Now we hope to COMPETE with these teams after 3 years? Good lord just shut it down and turn Neyland into a concert Venue. Maybe we can get Kenny Cheney on the reg and talk him out of wearing a gator hat while he sings.

Since I can’t do anything about it, I am choosing optimism as a coping/survival strategy. Maybe he enjoys a long tenure simply for being a heck of a good coach. It could happen you know. Our luck had to change one day, why not today?

Covid will still be a factor in 2021. NCAA sanctions could affect the program for perhaps 2-3 years. Many of our best players have jumped ship. The new AD will want to protect "his guy". The level of apathy and lowered expectations is at an all time high. Tennessee now knows they cant just throw money at a coach and get them to this dumpster fire. Nobody on this team on offense is ready for a fast-paced offense. Heuple will have to cycle out all the offensive players and get "his guys"

All these things mean CJH has excuses for years and years. My guess is Huepel will be here for no less than 5 years even if every year is a losing season before they consider replacing him. Probably more like 7 years.
Blah, blah, blah

LOL "real fans" you got a special badge for that? good grief some people.
I am only stating that if all people come on here for is gloom and doom they aren’t really a fan. You know like the negative employee or co-worker who is just a cancer to everyone else. Sure we are all not too happy with how things are going, but there is way more in life than football. GBO

Instead of „positive“/„negative“, I prefer to think of myself as „realistic“. Just try to be objective. I was 100% behind Pruitt for most of his tenure, but when the evidence became clear that he was in over his head, I changed and began to advocate for his replacement. It is what it is.

How many idiotic threads are you planning on creating this week? You don't like the hire, a lot of people don't like the hire, and most fans realize that UT is in a difficult position

COVID-19 as a pandemic will be over in the April to May timeframe. I do not believe it will have a major affect on the Fall sports seasons.

Only if players start re-entering the transfer portal, recruiting is terrible, or sanctions are major will we have the talent dropoff that many are expecting. With good coaching and a good off-season, I think Tennessee can compete with all but the very top level - Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State.

Now, if we have a mass exodus in the coming months, all bets are off. However, I believe a lot of highly rated prospects will be drawn to this offense. So, I think we will be fine.

Sure, it may take a while for the hurry-up offense to be fully implemented, but young guys are very adaptable, and I am sure that they will be glad to be a part of a prolific offense.

As for longevity, he has a long contract, but I don't see him lasting more than 3 or 4 years if he cannot produce results on the field (W's).

Covid will still have a large impact on spring practices and summer workouts for sure based on the projections I have seen.

I also forgot to mention Heupel gets an automatic seventh year if Tennessee gets NCAA sanctions.

Do you think we should begin another coaching search for it to become even more evident that unless we are willing to throw out 10-15 million per year that zero big name coaches are willing to coach here right now?

Eh over a decade of sucking tends to lower expectations. Just stop losing by 20+. Im not above moral victories

Correct. I'm all for giving the guy patience but I need to see improvement not regression. If we are losing to Georgia, Alabama and Florida by a close margin by year 2 of Heupel's tenure then I'd say we are "heading in the right direction". If we are getting trounced like the past two years then I'll probably just stick to Tennessee basketball and Titans football to save myself the headaches.
