Gerrymandering in Virginia

I was basically saying that the current system of citizens electing their senators is appropriate, and that hog thinking it should go back to pre-13th amendment is simply dumb.

The district convo was just pointing out how 85's argument was meritless.
why is it appropriate?

Oddly enough many think the Civil War was both of those things and I agree.

You're certainly of the minority opinion on this one.

How exactly do you envision slavery (which was the primary catalyst) being eliminated without war?
Slavery was dying and the abolitionist prolonged it. They forced the issue and caused the South to bow up. The abolitionist actually did the plantation owners a favor. Sharecropping, which is what slavery became, was much better and profitable than slavery for the land owners.
The war was much more about the North's economics that it was slavery. They depended on the cheap agricultural products of the South to fuel their industry. They would've gone belly up if they had to compete with the Europeans in trade.

It negates the effect of gerrymandered districts and gives state politicians one less avenue for corruption.
it removes one source of corruption by making the remaining source of corruption even more powerful. As long as the politicians can bribe the population with more free stuff the corruption remains. We need both to act as a checks and balances, and it works in both directions.

seems like we would all be much better off by directly fixing those issues instead of backdooring them.

Has this war been an astonishing success? It has, fact. Is China pissing in their pants? Yes they are, fact. Has the future of the ME and the world order been changed? Yes it has, fact.

Is the Iranian government still in charge? Yes.
Is the strait of Hormuz still a problem? Yes
So what has changed? The ayatollah and a few other leaders are dead. That’s it.

China is sitting back letting the US get involved in another unwinnable war, wasting resources, pissing off Americans who don’t want this war.

And what they got from Trump was the ability to do what they were already doing - buying up US farmland out from under now-worse off US farmers. Congratulations? The Chinese literally gave up nothing.

How has the future of the ME changed? You’ve failed to remove the threat, emboldened all the hardliners in the Iranian government, the Iranian citizens continue to be gunned down and beaten into submission. You’ve just created a more unstable Iranian regime that will resort to more violence to remain in power. And as for the nuclear weapon that may or may not existed? Well we obliterated it months ago, then we didn’t obliterate it, then we did, then we didn’t. You’ve pushed Iran to closer ties with China. You think they’re going to stop trading with Iran? If you believe that load of BS coming from the joke of an administration, I’ve got a farm to sell y….oh wait, it’s just got foreclosed on because this unnecessary war has driven up fuel prices we haven’t seen in decades and they’re still rising. Congratulations.

It was Caucasian men in America who ended slavery.

Slavery still exist in many African dominate societies and was started in Africa by Africans.
And there were Caucasian men in America that fought and died to keep slavery. What’s your point?

China is the clear winner, Trump was an embarrassment , falling asleep at a state dinner, pecking at Xi s documents. Begging for 2 billionth reopen the strait that trumps actions closed. You have it bad.

Gerrymandering prevents voters from electing thier representatives. It permits representatives selecting thier voters. Tennessee districts look like a 3rd grader drawing.

No, it is complete chaos. If the IGRC or the mullahs were in such control, why aren't they gunning down the protesters like they did this winter?

We are shutting down the Strait and strangling the Iranians.

They are in panic mode and their economy is in shambles. They kissed the ring this weekend. They got nothing they want and were told to back off. We control their oil and gas now.

China is an industrial, oil poor nation that totally depends on exporting their goods, mostly to the U.S. We are in control of both of those now, we are their daddy. A lot has changed in the past year.

Iran is gone and the other muslim nations are now are their enemy and they are siding with Israel.

If China so supportive of Iran, why aren't they helping them and threatening the U.S. and Israel?
Highest fuel prices in decades? I didn't know that 4 years was now a decade. This in 2022 the average price of gas was much higher than now.

What the hell are you talking about? China has been kicked out of Panama, Venezuela, and Iran. They have lost they cheap oil sources. China is now buying oil from us. We now control all the shipping choke points. Their economy is in shambles.
How have they won again? What a 🤡.

How? Nixon was for price controls and cozying up to the commie Chinese. He created the freaking EPA.
Nixon famously stated, "Now I am a Keynesian in economics," and controversially imposed peacetime wage and price controls to combat inflation, deepened détente with the Soviet Union, historically visited communist China and opened American markets to them making them what the are today, widely known as the last LIberal Republican.
Keynesian economics is a macroeconomic theory asserting that total spending, or aggregate demand, dictates economic outcomes and that governments should actively intervene to manage economic downturns.

Humphrey and Nixon would have got along great.
Hey Emily, you did it again.

Yes you are a clown and not a very smart one. China is buying up US farmland as tariffs have forced many Americans into bankruptcy.

Israel's happy though because Iran's closer to being a failed state that's unable to oppose their regional hegemony, which is what this war seems to be all about.

It's not any different than those libs fleeing the blue states they fricked up and moving to my neck of the woods. So this must mean that you agree with Trump about preventing the Chinese and institutional investors from buying up single family property?
