Gerrymandering in Virginia

For those of you who don't know, Virginia is working to redraw Congressional maps in Virginia to give Democrats a 10-1 majority for Congressional seats. The current split is 6-5 Democrats.
Six years ago, Virginia passed a constitutional amendment which created a bi-partisan board to draw the maps after every census. The current make-up of seats was decided by the board.
Democrats beat Republicans in all 3 state wide offices and hold super majorities in both houses of our legislature.
They have changed the rules to hold a special vote on April 22 to amend the Constitution to allow a temporary change and suspend the board, which may be reinstated in 2030.
I know because while driving through VA and streaming Sports Talk 99.1 I repeatedly heard our former president tell Virginians that the republicans were trying to steal the election and it was up to them to prevent it by voting yes before April something

Well Virginia looks like if your poplar vote goes to a Republican candidate and the National poplar vote is for the Democrat candidate your electoral college votes goes to the Democrat.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact has been around for years, and It means absolutely nothing at the moment, or for the foreseeable future.

And the next Republican governor can leave the compact.

Well, about 160 years ago when the democrats wouldn’t give up their slaves; the Western Countries seceded and formed their own state. Might be about time for most of the state to do the same again since the modern democrats are in a similar power trip again. Maybe it is time for the State of Middle Virginia:

Crazy that it's Republicans flying confederate flags beside their Trump flags, and fighting tooth and nail to keep confederate monuments in place these days, isn't it?

So looks like VA will pass this gerrymandering bill.

One person made this happen: Trump.

Don't like it? Go complain to the idiot.

That's some idiocy. And why is there a picture of Johnny Winter dressed as Santa Claus?

Your grasp of Virginia history is pretty weak. About half those western counties (no capitalization, Donnie) voted to secede from the US with the rest of Virginia. They were chosen to be added to WV so it would be something more than New England sized.
WV's invited a couple dozen or so counties from the Commonwealth to join them. So far, no takers.

I don't see how this helps the Dems in presidential elections at all. The states popular vote went blue in 2024 and Trump won the popular vote nationally. That would have meant that he would have gotten the electoral votes for Virginia in the 2024 election (had this law been in place). If Virginia ever goes red in their state popular vote then the election is already decided anyways with a republican winner, and most likely that republican winner has the national popular vote already. Am I miss reading something here? It's early in the A.M., so please forgive me.
