I just seen Gerald Riggs on the Signal Mountain sideline. Does anybody know how long he has been coaching?

He's helping out bc his old coach, Tom Weathers (the legend that is) helps out. Weathers son is the head man, but they've got a ton of experienced fb ppl around that program. And a lot of money.

He has not been coaching all year. I have seen him at other school games all year. Rumor is he jumped on board during semi-final game last week. Interesting that he went to his high schools rival up the mountain.

Red Bank and Signal aren't rivals. Signal is only a few yrs old and is more than a division or two apart from) in size. Makes sense he'd help Tw out before RedBank tho, as he never played for Daniels.

Signal will be moving to 4A next season. They will not be in same district, but there is a little hatred between the two schools. Agree he did not play for Daniels, but pride in the high school you went to does mean a lot. Not saying he should be at Red Bsnk, just interesting he just shows up 2 games til state championship.

He also may have been there because he does Friday Night Football on Channel 12.

Gerald does Friday Night Football for WRCB TV (Channel 3 in Chattanooga). I was surprised to see him on Channel 3 almost 3 months ago when i saw the highlights of the week Rhea County faced Bearden.

Dude was something special while @ RBank. That 2000 team peaked @ #7 in the USA today hs poll. That was back during De La Salle's 14,000,000 game win streak. Seriously, without looking it up, I wanna say De La Salle (Ca) won something like 9 state titles in a row. I may be way off, that's a decade ago.

Loved Riggs, but overall was a MAJOR disappointment

It went south for the final time, imo, on the play before Cory Anderson's fumble/throw-up the ball into bama's endzone after Roman Harper put his hat on the ball.( One of my worst memories of a UTBama game. MtCody is up there too. Gilbert Arenas, David Palmer....). Anyway, he got hurt(again) and was never the same. Shame. I'm telling you, in HS he was SPECIAL. Most SEC coaches actually wanted him to play LB, as I recall.

According to Chattanooga paper they will be playing in 3A in the district with Sequatchie, Bledsoe, Chatt Christain, Notre Dame and Grundy County and play 4A in play-offs...After I read that I figured they were dodging Alcoa in 3A play-offs, since a school can decide to play up in the play-offs

How would seeding work for a school who can play up? I wanna say one of RB played up one year too. (Mid 00's, iirc)

Gerald did play by play on radio for Red Bank football this year, he used to do the Thursday afternoon WGOW Sportstalk program with Dr. B and Quake but he skipped this year because he was pursuing his degree. I think it was because Red Bank Football broadcasts were being carried by WGOW's competition. I thought his commentaries concerning SEC (particularly Tennessee) football were accurate and insightful. I think he has a career in sports broadcast, or at least a foothold.
