Just noticed that he is co anchoring Friday HS football coverage for WRCB tv in Chattanooga...

The only place to hear expert analysis from a former player is Channel 3 as we welcome Gerald Riggs, Jr. to the program. Gerald is a high school legend in Chattanooga. Gerald Riggs, Jr. knows what it's like to play on Friday nights and will bring a perspective that you cannot see anywhere else.

High school legend, college football bust and cancer on the team i.e. not wearing anything remotely associated with Tennessee athletics on the sideland during a game while injuried.

Some people need to ease up. Riggs wasn't as great as we thought he would be, but I think I could say that about quite a few players that have come through Tennessee. I mean the guy had 1,000+ yards in one season while sharing carries. Played pretty well in the SEC championship game in '04, and suffered with a weak line the next year in '05 before injuring his ankle. He really wasn't that bad, he just wasn't the next coming of Jamal Lewis. Move on.

Excellent post. In the eyes of some, if your name is not Peyton Manning, Al Wilson, Jamal Lewis or Eric Berry you are a disgrace to the orange. Sad.

Being from Chattanooga, I have hung out with Gerald on quite a few occasions. He is the easiest person to talk with and give you insight on current Vols players. He'd rather talk football at the table over a beer then act like a superstar thug. It's too bad CPF had him run it up the middle 25 times a game, bc he made a name for himself in high school on the toss sweep.

He was a very solid player that did not live up to his 5* hype.
Big deal. He did some very good things on teams that were not that talented or coached well. Give the man some credit.

I agree, watched him play my high school, McMinn County. You could see his speed when he got outside but for some reason CPF used him as a 3yrds and a cloud of dust back.

Since when is it an embarrassment to not make an NFL team?

Yes, he could have had a better college career, but that can be said for many. At very least he wasn’t arrested, shown on TV laughing while his team was getting spanked or anything like that.

He might have found his niche in sport reporting.

Say what you want about him but I will always respect him for pounding the ball acrooss the goal line at LSU, and just the reaction of seeing all those LSU faces on TV looking like they had been gut shot!

Good for gerald, he's a great guy if you ever get a chance to talk to him. I still remember during his recruitment on his visit to UT he stopped by my apartment to visit with my roommates since we all went to high school together. At the time there were news stories about how he was going to nebraska, etc. and he made it clear that he was coming to UT and just taking the trip out to nebraska because other people had told him to. It took a lot of effort not to run to the messageboards and let that one out

Gerald Riggs is a good guy, and to be honest I think the Chattanooga area players are... as a group... better behaved and more respectful than most.

He is awful on the radio. He's on Sporttalk in Chattanooga during football season on Thursday's. He repeats himself/stutters.

"The running back, he uh, uh uh uh, he he he he made a great catch."

This goes on, over and over, for three hours.

Hopefully, he will do better on tv.

As someone who went to highschool with Gerald, I can personally attest that he was an unbelievable athlete. Unfortunately, Gerald was his biggest fan. He did as little as possible to squeak through high school and I think he believed his own hype once he got to college. Finding out everybody in college is just as good as you are has its ways of humbling you. He had a descent career, but most would say it is disappointing considering the potential. I actually feel a little sorry for him. With little to no education to fall back on (someone please correct me if he did in fact graduate), he has been reduced to posing on local billboards advertising tax services and doing highschool sideline reporting. It is a shame in my opinion. He had the talent, on and off the field, to be whatever he wanted to be...sky was the limit, unfortunately...he didn't have the determination. Just keeping it real. Best of luck G. Riggs.
