How good is his arm? Is he capable of being a solid passer? If so why not use him?

well the one pass he had against NIU did not look to impressive. I have seen him make a pass though, so I know he can.

Good point I often think why we don't utlize him more often. They should really expand that G GUN to include Berry throwing since he was a pretty adept passer in HS. We could also incorporate a little spread action with Hardesty shooting the B gap on the run but our O line doesn't consistently finish their blocks
to get real creative. We got the horses but we don't have the passion to blow people off the ball..oh well...

Since a wide receiver throws very few passes, it is highly irrelevant how good his arm is.

Did you even read the first post of this thread...please do and realize what they are talking about

Yes. I read the first post of this thread. Thank you. Gerald Jones is a wide receiver. He is not a quarterback. His arm is irrelevant.

Once, in the O&W game, when even Crompton looked good.

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear. I have played in a pick up game with him before, and he had a good arm. Yes, it was a pick up game and you can't compare that to a game situation against D-1A competition, but the they guy can throw the ball. Yes, he did pass in the O&W game, and that pass was impressive.

...like I said, he's a wide receiver not a quarterback.
Nobody disputes that. The question is can he be respectable enough throwing the ball for a Safety to even think twice about it before he just walks into the box every time Jones lines up at QB?

Has that happened so far? No. Defenses have loaded the box to stop his running. Has he done anything to deter defenses from doing so? No. Does he have the ability to do so? HIGHLY doubtful. If he were such a great passer, then he probably would have been a quarterback in college.

Annoying part of Saturday's game is Stephens would get the offense down to the 20 yard line and then they would put Jones in only to stall. I agree with trying but it didn't work on three separate drives. Change your game plan fellas if something ain't working.

Give up...it's no use

I doubt it too, but I think the coaches have the right idea with the two throws they have tried. If Lucas Taylor catches that screen pass against Auburn, he might still be running.

I do think though that if we are going to run the "G-Gun", we need to do it on 1st down. It's a little too feast or famine and this offense doesn't need 3rd and long.

That would require our coaching staff to have a clue. It doesn't.
