Gerald Jones Going T.O.?

Face it, Crompton is not even a decent quarterback! His inconsistency isn't even consistent. His throws are high, low, behind, in front of the receivers. While Gerald Jones should not be yelling at Kiffen, his frustration probably got the best of him. If Kiffen disciplines him I would back that decision but all of the Tennessee receivers are better than the man throwing the ball to them. Crompton does not handle the pressure of being an SEC quarterback.

i saw his little tirade and felt bad for him. sure he hasn't bee spot on because of his injury but you can't say he's not frustrated with JC. i admire him for not being more public about it, but let's face it, things boiled over on the field last Sat.

Better to be going T.O. than Randy Moss. Rather have a big mouth who cares. Than a pothead who doesn't.

GJ is a competitor and wants to contribute. Good for him. Frustration is building at both positions. Hope they get it worked out before Saturday

Well, why wouldn't he be frustrated? Did a wideout catch a pass in the game? I think we had 12 completions, or so, and all but one or two were to the backs.
By trying to coddle Crompton instead of opening the competition during games...not just practice (Kiffin said himself that some QB's just play better in a game than what they show at practice...ie M. Leinhart)....CLK is effectively messing over the veteran WR's from having a snowball's chance in hell at getting drafted. You can't showcase when the QB can't get the ball to you, and consequently the coach eliminates the passing game.
I think the WR's just want CLK to give Nick a chance to provide a spark...and normally I'd agree about yanking a QB, but Crompton has demonstrated to CLK that he is the worst QB Kiffin has ever coached, perhaps for all time.

Everybody needs to just settle into the fact that JC is our quarterback. We know his limitations, and unless anyone wants to argue that he's tanking, he's doing the best he can. It's the team's job to do the best they can under the circumstances. That includes good players and bad players, whether they get frustrated or not. It's a team sport.

what veteran WR on UT's roster has a chance of being drafted?

FYP...and that statement right there is what CLK seems to refuse to accept. He "may" study hard....practice hard, and show that he has physical capability...but Crompton's brain simply locks up under pressure and all the throws he makes time after time in practice, he's incapable of doing in a game. He's had 4 games to show that loud and clear...and I just can't believe that Stephens can't handle the pressure any better.

So I take it you didn't watch many games last season.
Yes I did, and for some of the games (UGA, NI, etc) he was a marked improvement over Crompton.
We kept hearing from the coaches about how much Stephens improved from the Spring, through fall camp.

They guy has one bad game at Wyoming and now all of a sudden he's worse than the ZERO we have with Crompton. JC got another chance...why not Stephens? Why can Nick not show improvement over last season?

I'm not saying he's the savior we are looking for, but I would like to see CLK open the competition up until he's satisfied that he can lean on the passing game when needed.

Vols Jr WR Gerald Jones said he was "completely out of line" for getting angry Sat, and he's "really mad" at himself. Apologized to team.

Nothing like an unsubstantiated rumor to start the week.

Did anyone else see Fulmer and Kiffin get into the fist fight in the tunnel before the game? Crompton's Dad got involved and was escorted out.

I saw that. It spilled out onto the field where Fulmer did a double back flip off the goal post onto Kiffin's chest. It took the grounds crew an hour to fill in the hole. :clapping:

Kiffin won't be happy with the passing game until 1) he's got a QB that can get the ball where it needs to be 2) he's got WRs that can create separation 3) he's got an OL that can pass block.

None of those three are happening this year.

Also, Kiffin knows once he yanks Crompton, #8's career is done. Let Crompton play out his senior year and wish him well. Stephens was not an improvement over Crompton last year, he just threw incompletions further.

See, all is well. Would some of you prefer that he not be frustrated and show emotion? Just go through the games doing the Aww Shucks? I could see a Blanket Party administered to JC by the linebackers. :good!:

Here's a quote from Jones on TOS:

"I just got frustrated, did some things I shouldn't have done. It's hard after two seasons of really being somewhat of the go-to guy on offense and then this year not really getting as much catches as I thought I would. It's really humbling," said Jones, the leading career receiver on UT's roster. "It's humbling because I get frustrated; I'm so competitive. I want to be out there and I want to feel a part of the team. I feel like if I'm not catching the ball and making plays then I'm not helping the team. So that's the hardest part for me right now that I've got to deal with."

And a little more:

"I haven't got a chance to apologize to coach Kiffin, but I guarantee I'm going to do that as soon as I go in. I talked to coach (Frank) Wilson. Everything I did was out of line, heat of the moment," he said. "Competitive attitude comes out when things ain't going right. I talked to my momma and she just told me I really need to keep my composure. I've still got a lot of growing to do. I'm 20 years old, but that's no excuse."

If I were coach Kiffin & Jones got in my face his ass would be sitting for quite a while; and any more of that BS & he would be gone for good.

Good on him then. I know I have blown up at inappropriate times.

Thanks for posting that, I was about to lay into him. Now GJ, don't let it happen again.

If this is true, CLK should sit Jones the rest of the year. He has been a non-factor in the receiving game this year to date. GJ has rested on his laurels since the 2007 UK-UT 51-50 shoot-out.

Umm... has anyone been a factor in the passing game this season besides Bryce Brown?

It was talked about earlier tonight how during the game when Crompton and the offense was on the field that Stephens is not even watching the game or staying in tune with the plays trying to educate himself. He is over with the defense and bench warmers laughing and having his own party. That might be 1 reason why Kiffin is not putting him in, his actions speak louder then words.

Talked about where? Is he not signaling plays in? :eek:hmy:
