I too am in the bench Gerald Jones camp, he has never impressed me....never. For every good play he may make he makes 5 bad. That is not the rollar coaster I want to be on. Bench him Bench him Bench him.

When Jones is 100% healthy and eric is swinging off his sack, I'll laugh.

Jones would make a better running back than WR. I love the ability of Jones, but his bread and butter is when he can get his hands on the ball without having to remember to do too many things at once.

In Jones defense, he was open coming out of his break, before he ever made it to the sideline. JC did not get it to him.

And I have no idea why he ran out of bounds.

Really disappointing post, I thought you followed football more than making this kind of backlash post. Jones is one of the true talents we have when healthy. Expected more from you Eric. He is definitely not one of the problems with the O except for injury.

Gerald is the best playmaker on offense when he is healthy. Kiffin stated as much several times. He was wide open on that flag route that Crompton underthrew. Not to mention last week he had a touchdown if he gets the ball when he split the safeties. If you watch the tape he gets open more than any other wideout by a lot. He was open all day long last year. That said, he's made a lot of mistakes past two weeks...NO excuse for stepping OB...absolutely none...but judging a guy as a bust for making a few mistakes after missing a load of time and being injured is ludicrous. He's one of the most talented guys we have.

I don't get where you're coming from with this. Gerald Jones is in his correct position. He's a WR. He'd likely be a terrible runningback.

Take the blinders off... G. Jones has been a huge disappointment up to now, with or without injury. If he's a "true talent", he needs to prove it to everyone.

Warren and Moore have been disappointing up to now as well...

Many of us expected one of these guys to be an every down playmaker, yet none appear to have progressed very much.

I expect we'll see more and more of the freshmen.

Put Jones back fielding punts and I bet Rogan would be better. In my 40+ years of watching the Vols he is overrated in my opinion. I do not see any flashes of a Willie Gault, Donte Stallworth, Robert Meacham, Tim McGee or alot of other great receivers that have passed thru the hill.

Perhaps it's your expectations that need adjusting and not the talent level of our players.

Interesting thread.

In my opinion, G Jones is a solid player, but not a game changer. Being injured has certainly set him back this year. Whether it can be blamed for the OOB route today, I don't know. However, on one of Cromptons picks last week, if G Jones had jumped, he could have easily had the catch - but he didn't jump. Don't know what to think on that one... injury?

I am stunned with their performance at this point. Both of them seem to be behind in the scheme of things right now. In the Army we describe this sort of thing as a "Battle Rhythm" and I don't see that at all right now for these two guys. I see Denarius and Teague very similar in their style of play.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I don't think these guys are top-tier players in the SEC. I see them being good possession receivers and thats about it. Jones has some play-making abilities but he seems to be very inconsistent and not capable of bring his A game every day.

I really don't know the future for our wide receivers at Tennessee. Ambles may be a go-to guy but the jury is still out. At this point it is really hard to indicate what the capabilities of our wide-receivers are with J. Crompton out their slinging it.

Our wideouts will be fine for the future. We could still add another big time wideout to our current class, and we have three to four guys now that will come in and at least compete for playing time. If Bray comes in and competes and wins the job, then our future will be great, if not next year then the next.

We should just shut them down for the remainder of the season.

Quinton Hancock looks very much like a nfl receiver at times, but I was very concerned about his lack of interest or concern in recovering his fumble today. As for Gerald and Denarius, I agree that they both need to step up their game right now.

That is funny that you say that because I have said that to myself several times. He has a very fluent motion to him.

He has the tools and talent and he is improving. Just seems like he is disinterested or passionless at times. When he is on, he looks more like an nfl caliber wr than anybody we've had since meachem.

Jones just seems like the perfect RB to me. Hell, even if you made him a hybrid like they do with Oku would be fine with me. Jones would be a beast coming out of the backfield.
