Looking over our schedule I really do hate that we have Georgia week 3. That only gives all of our new guys on defense, our almost completely new o-line and whichever new QB we choose 2 weeks to gel. At least the game is in Neyland but, man, this is one year I wish we did not have them right out of the gates. Fortunately we follow that game with UAB, Mississippi State and Arkansas (at home) so they will have some games to get themselves together. Also, early losses are better than later losses so maybe playing them early is not the end of the world.

As a general rule, I think it's better to play Georgia early than late. It might not work out for us this year, but playing them in Mid-November (taking Auburn's traditional spot on their schedule) is not ideal. I said this when we made the switch originally, by then their greater depth almost always gives them the advantage. They had been beating Auburn like a drum in that slot for over a decade, I'm glad we got out of it.

UGA will be bringing a lot of new guys along as well, so it’s anybody’s guess how that plays. Big game on the road for the new kids? It will be interesting.

This game almost always comes down to OL/DL play. Both teams are replacing a lot there. It might be a grow up game.

UGA return a little more in the secondary and at WR, while both teams are replacing key guys at QB, DL, and RB (though UGA returns the guy that ended the season at its leading RB, even if not the starter).

Looking forward to it.

I think it is actually better for us. Georgia has started off somewhat slow the past couple of seasons. Mishaps against Kentucky and Missouri come to mind.
We've seen the same thing happen with UF early in the season and still managed to drop our game against them...

I like playing Georgia early because they have a new qb without much experience playing his first ever game on the road in checker neyland

UGA has more depth to win later in the year. That said I expect UGA to be in the playoffs again.

Unfortunately they always take us seriously, they don't always take Kentucky and Missouri seriously, no one does.

He wasn't shook coming in at halftime in the SEC championship game, so I am not counting on him to get rattled.
I’m proud of Stockton’s play in that game—I was there and going nuts about it—but 12/16 for 71 yards, no TDs, and a pick isn’t a formula for success going forward. That pick was really bad, too, in terms of risk/reward. He played tough and did enough, but it’s going to take more going forward.

UGA will be breaking in a new QB as well. Not a lot of experience there at all. If our staff has any coaching moxie whatsoever they should be able to develop some wrinkles and schemes that should be effective. I recognize UGA is good year in and year out. But we aren't chopped liver nor should we be. They'll likely be favored but if you're a competitor its what you want, to compete against the best. No looking down chins to the ground go eye to eye and take the field expecting to beat their donkeys. GBO!

I think Stockton will do OK but playing in the home state in Atlanta with 50% plus of the crowd on your side is different than playing on the road at Neyland.
Clearly Neyland is more hostile but that's maximum pressure playing the first meaningful snaps of your career and playing well with the championship on the line. What I am saying is that he may not be that good but I don't think lack of nerve will be his problem.

The last few yrs it hasn't mattered when or where we play UGA, same results. Lets hope the schedule change with them early and FL late makes a difference. We beat FL in the swamp last time we played them a late season game so lets hope that helps.
I'm not sure any of our players were alive when UT beat UF in 2001. Not sure how that helps. 😂

Agree with what your saying but coming off the bench some players do better versus thinking about and over preparing all week can sometimes get in a QBs head. Each handle it differently. We just havent see enough of Stockton yet. He has performed average after being thrown in after the Beck injury. We shall see early this year if he's even a starter by UT game, they have some high stars to pick from.. Playing at home vs Marshall and Austin Peay before coming to Neyland will not get him seasoned for the SEC road. Be a fun game to watch.
