So let me get this straight, in year 5, we are in a rebuilding year?

He knows he's catching us in a rebuilding year. Not sure what they're bringing back, but the beauty of that system is that they can succeed with lesser talent. Will be a tough, tough opener.

It's a broken bone, veer and with a decent QB it can cause problems. Sir, I agree with you. It was once what the spread is now.

Almost 61. I am old compared to a bunch of you young whipper snappers. Graduated from Chattanooga East Ridge in 1974. We ran that option offense in 72 and 73.

Young man, I watched the SEC special regarding the late LSU coach that was lost in the plane crash in the early 80's. The program said Lou Holts invented it or at least was instramental in developing it. Do you know if that is correct?

Not trying to be a negavol here but what have you seen to make you think we should win by 14-21?

Nothing nega about that question. Don't let football political correctness make you think your concern or question is nega. Heck we almost lost to Appy with a loaded healthy roster.

They're a dangerous team to play... Hopefully we ready for their offense with the time we have to prepare. What bodes well is that they are very up and down. Next year they might suck

Forget that we won? I'm confused...so we should be fine?

Because struggling against a SunBelt team, needing OT and a miracle fumble recovery to win, when team 120 was loaded with experience and talent, isn't something that should have caused worry?

In hindsight, that game set the tone for the entire season.

The only coach I can think of that doesn't have a rebuilding year is Saban. They happen when senior leadership has to be sought from other players, key talent at impact positions graduates or gets drafted, and if coaching changes occur. All of the above are happening for next season. Remember what happens when expectations are set too high.

There are plenty. Look at the coaches who have historically won big year after year after year. Currently, there's Saban, Meyer, Stoops at Oklahoma, now Swinney at Clemson among others.

Go back to when Fulmer had us rolling in the 90s....some may have argued that 1998 should've been a "rebuilding year", but Fulmer had the program strong and running smoothly. Rather than start over after losing Manning, we adjusted and won the national title.

Championship programs simply do not start over every 3-4 seasons, they simply replace outstanding/great with other, younger, "ready to play", outstanding/great players.

Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson....

“We’re 3-0 in the SEC East and have Tennessee next.” - @GTPaulJohnson

Awfully bold Coach Johnson. Thanks for the bulletin board material.

LOL. They beat Kentucky and he is talking smack. We will do our talking on the field

I wonder if we can get the invocation for the game changed up a bit? "Lord we ask that you protect these players from Georgia Tech's cut blocking, chop blocking, and clipping, and especially protect their ankles and knees." I would love to know how many teams walk away from Georgia Tech games with players out for the season.

Not as many as you apparently think. If this is such an "epidemic", then no one should ever schedule Navy, Army, Air Force, or GT ever again. Wow, for such a "high school" offense, it seems some of you guys are really worried. If we can't contain the edge any better than we did this year, GT will have a field day.

You're kidding right? Year 5 and we're rebuilding? No, if we've developed our players correctly, we should be able to plug and play and not miss much of a beat. That's what the best programs, the best head coaches, the best staffs do. Rebuilding suggest that we're starting over, starting from scratch....in year 5, no way a program like Tennessee should be doing that. It's a bit corny and over played, but the saying "they don't rebuild, they just reload" should apply here.

You are absolutely right.

But, is that what we are doing?

Boy for a high school offense, a bunch of teams have a hard time stopping it. I mean do you have any clue how many yards GT would have run for against us this year?

Also, unless our defense VASTLY improves, they will redefine the term "swiss cheese defense" against us next year.

Our D looked pretty good against the shuckers now that they were a little healed up!

They are going to get their teeth kicked in on the first game next year.

Love the optimism over a middle of road ACC team. Why do some people even bother following UT football. May be tough but we will handle them.

You have losses to SC and Vandy and a LOT of talent walking out the door to thank for the lack of confidence in the 2017 squad.

How quickly we forget the 2016 season opener against App State. Without staff changes, even 8 months to prepare, probably will not be enough.

How quickly we forget the early out of conference game was Virginia Tech which we routed in the Battle at Bristol.

My main concern against GT is keeping our D line healthy against the way they cut/chop block.

I do NOT want to see any of our good D linemen lost for the season because we were dumb enough to agree to play that team.

VFL...GBO!!!

Good point. :good!:

We didn't know what to expect from week to week this past season. With that, I don't see how anyone thinks they can prognosticate next year. Who knows what will happen?

We played against Rodney Ballard(I think its his name)when I was at McMinn County in the 80's. He was a man among boys,it was like like hitting a truck.
