They are generally smaller. We should push them around, especially late in the game when they are worn down. Secondary has to be patient and stay at home. Our DBs can go 1v1 on the outside the entire game, and just let our guys be playmakers.

LT Lee, Jahaziel SO - 267 lbs

LG Braun, Parker SO - 280 lbs

C Cooper, Kenny SO - 307 lbs

RG Bryan, Will JR - 281 lbs

RT Marshall, Andrew SR - 282 lbs

------------------------------------------------------------------

RDE - Kongbo - 264

DT - Vickers - 295, Picou - 280

DT - Kahlil - 320, Tuttle - 308

LDE Phillips - 263, Darrell taylor - 254

DKjr is 230 btw.

Also, I have no idea when these numbers were updated, but one can only assume they'll increase due to Rock Gullickson, if they haven't already.

GTs O Line needs more cornbread and beans. K Mac and company is going to make them wish they went back for seconds.

I hope we manage to be a little bit better against this undersized line than we were against the undersized line we faced in the opener last season... I expect to be... But only time will tell.

The key to beating this type of offense is playing smart and disciplined on the line. If you can get GT in 3rd and long you are going to win almost every time.

This is by design. A OL in our system has to be able to get to the second level.

We valve quickness and agility more than being 300+ lbs.

If we wanted to go big we would have Shamire Devine starting at G. He's listed at 6'7 380.

Also, you could see Jake Stickler starting at T. He's listed at 6'5 291.

I should also add our online roster is awful at updating weights.

Yeah. The offense Tech runs needs faster O lineman. It's by design. Plus they try to get rid of the ball fast so it's not going to be some guy just hanging out waiting for a D lineman to push through and get to the QB.

If anything, our Linebackers are going to have to have the game of a season here. Play disciplined football.

I'm actually dreading this game, but I am glad it's the first game of the season and we are able to concentrate on it and not just have a week to prepare. Plus having Larry Scott and coach Warren on staff helps since they were in the ACC/service academy for years and have a lot of experience with the T-O vs Tech and Navy. But having this game first is huge for us, Thats where the triple option really kills teams. Like, In late October, sammiched in your schedule and suddenly you have just a few practices to prepare for it. Sheesh.

Our O line is smaller by design, it's more about speed and agility. A lot of times our guys aren't even blocking the D line but going to the second level to get a LB or safety, so at that point the size doesn't matter much. The LG was an ESPN 300 player who was a freshman all American, the center has received high praise from Paul johnson, and although the RG isn't huge, the dude is solid muscle. I'm more worried about our tackles.

Somebody might want to block somebody on the D line instead of the 'second level', cause when Khalil McKenzie has his 300 pound azz sitting on your quarterback's face, Paul Johnson might wish he didn't run his big mouth so much...lol.

Watch them play. They cut block and hope that the play is gone before guys like KM can get going. One of the things their O pretty consistently does is make DT's play laterally. They then come back with quick hitters up the middle.

When run well, it is an effective offense.

Pretty sure I saw similar numbers posted last season regarding Appy State. Yet they pushed us all over the field.

Their offensive scheme is suited for quicker, more agile lineman. They only need to hold their blocks for a matter of seconds.

Do you know how their weight is compared to App St?

Agreed with the above replies. Tech's scheme is to get to the second level. They aren't running a power I offense. If they fail to get to our linebackers, this becomes an easy win.

LB is a big question mark and their work will be cut out for them on game 1. I think we win against GT, but not as pretty as many on here would like. 27-20 UT or something like that

Interesting enough, I watched the Appy State game again last night. And we outweighed those guys if I recall.

And their quickness gave us major troubles. At times it was just plain awful. I am not going to prognosticate here but I don't think size matters against Tech as much as one would think. With the triple option, having a pile of OL fatties does not work anyway. So we better be ready for Tech less on weight and more so quickness and scheme.

And another assessment from the Appy game - we really did not grind them down with size over the course of the game as one might think. Go back and look at the line play in overtime - not good.

All of this said - we'll see what Rock brought to the table on size, speed, toughness, and stamina. The latter two being areas of weakness for us last year (IMO).

good post, but, to me, as far as the App St game, it was an example of why Coach Debord is not here anymore...:)

GO VOLS!

I suspect you will see a LOT of penetration by our DL. Quick straight bull rushes, you can't dive at guys knees if someone has their hands on your chest pushing you straight up and back.

Doesn't matter. Winning against their option is not winning the straight ahead battle. It's assignment, edge protection, and line backers that can read the play and clean it up. Posted weights are meaningless.

The best bet is a DT that can get penetration up the middle and blow up the play early. But other than Tuttle I haven't seen one.
