Georgia loss positively alters Tennessee trajectory.

We have twice the talent of NC State. We are only slightly below UGA on paper. We were predicted to lose because of our coaches. They are still here so we still suck. OP is part of the problem.

The fact that some people believe this is hilarious. Clueless.

I expected to upset Florida OR Georgia, not both. It was the way we lost to Florida, and not so much that we lost, that utterly deflated my hope in this team. Namely the piss poor defense. Unacceptable. UT stands to lose to Alabama and South Carolina, possibly miss st. and mizzou to finish 6-6. I pray I'm wrong. I want more than anything a nice 9-3 season

People continue to reference the "way we lost" to UF as reason for so much doom and gloom. I think that is actually poor critical analysis. We got gashed on a small number of huge plays. It is completely unexcusable and we saw that show up again at UGA obviously. But if you look at the UF game on a play-by-play basis we competed with and won lots of battles. It was just when we got beat it was a huge play. UF is going to beat LSU this week and then I think people will understand a little better that UF is really good and we were on par with them most of the plays in that game.

The issue is that people can't comprehend how much time it takes to bring a team like ours up from the ashes literally. Thats a reality whether anyone on here agrees or not. This school has been through a lot the past 4 years. Ive never ever seen another school such as ours go through so many coaches in a 5 year span. Thats no excuse but a fact. SMH double face palm...

Oklahoma went through four coaches in a six year stretch from 94-99.

None of this matters if the run defense isn't improved! Miss St avg's 5+ yds a carry and USCjr has Lattimore. So if no improvement we are looking at best 7-5. The loss to UGA showed that you don't have to do anything special to run all over our D. I just hope we can at least stop all of the 50+ yd td runs!

You're right. Our run defense has been abused two weeks in a row. We're solid in the middle but we're weak once the offense sets the edge. We've got two weeks to improve that. If Sal is worth his salt, he'll devote a good portion of practice to that and make serious adjustments to the scheme.

We were favored by 3 and NC State wasn't an upset. However I will take the opening statement a bit farther. I don't think we beat SC. We win 8 games and go to a bowl. As hard as that is to swallow 8 wins and a bowl is significant improvement and a bowl win might even get DD an extention. I said before the season 9 wins is a victory and I stand by what I said.

I don't know if UF beats LSU. Unless they get unreal qb play again, but they will prove a point. Good post.

that's because you're probably one of those knee-jerk reacting retards that pushed out Fulmer.

Don't you ****ing learn, moron?
Moron? Okay, child. I've repeatedly said that if they were going force out someone with a record like his that Hamilton needed to have a good plan ready for his successor. What was accomplished through these years could have easily been accomplished by Phil, who obviously deserved to stay after seasons like these more than Dooley does. Dooley has never shown that he is a coach worthy of coaching at Tennessee. Fulmer won a NC. This is all a slap in the face to him as a UT alum and lifetime coach. By the way, it was time for Fulmer to go.

It was one of three battleground games this season that truly reflect where we are as a program. .

Young Grasshopper, this and every season, the three battleground games that truly reflect where we are as a program are as follows (in this order):

1-Bammer
2-Gators
3-Ga. Dogs

Vanderbilt [and Kentucky b.d. (before Dooley)] were given. Not so much since Dools.

I really think there is virtually no difference between the top four teams in the east. UT, USC, UF and UGA are all very talented. UT played a very physical game and truth be told seem to be better conditioned for the end of the game.

The play calling was very good. The O-line was excellent. The WRs were great. The UT defense was a little weak at times, but the big plays were the real difference and this UGA team so far has been more explosive than any in recent times.

I went to the UT-UGA game at Neyland last year and to me this looks like a much better team. tough, physical, no quit.

Good luck the rest of the way. Beat Bama.

Hello there folks! I'm a new member but a LONG time Vol fan who is living in exile (California). There is NO BETTER proof of the importance of a coaching staff than South Carolina. I mean really, For YEARS Tennessee would whip them like a red headed stepchild , but insert one certain Steve Spurrier (Lord but I hate to even spell that name) and bammo, the Vols get spanked. Dooley has to go. NOW!

To fans, yes. However, when you take the emotion of "rivalry" games out of the equation and look only at the football x's and o's of it, these games don't matter any more than Troy or Akron.

Where we are today, three years after blowing the program up, we don't match up with Bama, Florida and Georgia. We're not in that upper tier. We're in the middle with South Carolina, Mississippi State, etc... For now, we need to measure ourselves against those programs. As we grow and continue to improve, we'll measure ourselves against the top 10 teams in the nation again.
