Georgia and Tennessee Injury Reports

Injury report for this week should not be out already unless someone really got hurt or took a huge step backwards. Let's wait until we get official word.

From Heupel: "I'm going to refer you guys to the injury availability report," Heupel said. "It'll be out on Wednesday."

There's no way Sanders plays. Throwing a true freshman out there at right tackle to make his first start against Georgia would not be fair to that kid! Give him another week's rest and let him play against UAB.
Not all freshman are built the same but make sure he is healthy first.

If he is cleared to play, he will play. I would be a little surprised if he starts though. I find it more likely he rotates in.

But at the same time, if he is among your best 5 and he's fully ready to go, then logically you should let him start. If he is better than the guys behind him, then it doesn't matter how much experience he has.

You think the line looks bad or something? The line play is good, and other guys are getting reps. It's a win win....
I've never seen David play, but JH saw him play and had placed him in the starting RT position before his injury, so I assume that the version of the line with him is at least as good as the version without him. It's good to have enough healthy linemen regardless.

If Sanders hasn’t been able to play due to injury, he’s been out of full contact work at practice for 2 weeks. Otherwise if he’s good to practice he’s good to play.
Unless something else is going on..

Sanders is not going to play again? Is that accurate? What’s going on with him? It went from “woke up not feeling well” on game 1 to “nicked up a bit” to explain game 2.
Frustrating isn't it. A freshman Phenom and we haven't seen him yet. But, do we really want his "first" start against Georgia? Besides, our line has been pretty good. I say the smart thing is to let him play during the GA game and start him next week. We want to see the big man do his thang !!!

The line has looked good enough through the first two games. Georgia is a different animal though, and let’s be honest, Sanders will transfer if he isn’t playing. He will have to be recruited every year.
He's going to play this year. Most likely this weekend. I don't think he'll start, but our coaches will likely put him in when he has the best chance to do well. So not when we have the ball near our goal line.

Even Heupel is not sure who will play this week and who won't at this point. That report is from last week, at least what I saw..

I'm sure that Sanders doesn't start. But it wouldn't surprise me if you were able to get some reps during the game at some point. I'm never a fan of having a freshman at offensive tackle, I don't care who it is. But coming off an injury for a true freshman against one of the top defenses in the nation is not the recipe that would probably need.

I'd be shocked if he didn't start. If GA had been our first game of the season and he was healthy, he would have started. Really no difference.

A pair of Georgia football players are banged up and likely questionable for Saturday afternoon’s showdown against Tennessee football at Neyland Stadium. Starting right guard Juan Gaston and right tackle Earnest Greene both missed the Bulldogs’ win over Austin Peay last week and Kirby Smart didn’t have an answer on their availability during his Monday press conference.

“Both Juan and Earnest, we’ll learn more about today and see where they are,” Smart said. “They’re both coming off of bumps and bruises and injuries, but hopeful to get them back.”

It’s just two weeks into the season but Tennessee football has already dealt with an abundance of injuries to multiple key defenders and one starting offensive linemen. Most of those players will likely not return for the Vols’ SEC opener against Georgia Saturday afternoon but a few could.

At the top of that list is starting defensive tackle Jaxson Moi who suffered an injury three plays into the Syracuse game and did not play a week ago against ETSU. Asked if there was optimism that Moi could return for the Georgia game, Heupel provided a short but positive answer on Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference.

“Yeah, there’s certainly some belief on that side of it, but you’ll be able to see on the injury report here tonight,” Heupel said.

The first Tennessee-related SEC Availability Report of the season comes out at 8:15 p.m. ET Wednesday night. With Moi’s status uncertain for the game, Tennessee will likely list Moi as questionable on Wednesday night before updating his status as it becomes more clear later in the week.

Good lord…how in the hell did you get his transferring from him being hurt. Its none of your dam business what his injury is or anyone else!

QUESTIONABLE – OT David Sanders Jr.

David Sanders is listed as Tennessee’s starting right tackle on the depth chart, but is yet to play a game. The true freshman and former five-star recruit was thought to be good to go for the opener against Syracuse, but was a late scratch by the medical team.

He was also ruled out for the game against ETSU the following week. Heupel gave his thoughts on Sanders’ status afterward.

“Dave, anticipated him being ready,” Heupel said following the win. “Ultimately, medical decided for him, for us, it probably wasn’t the best move to play him today.”

With Sanders out of the lineup, Tennessee has slid guard Jesse Perry out to right tackle. In that role, he’s done a good job, although against two weaker defensive lines than what Georgia brings to the table.

QUESTIONABLE – DE Tyree Weathersby

After playing a good bit of the game against Syracuse and performing well at defensive end, Tyree Weathersby was unable to play against ETSU. In the opener, he recorded four six tackles with four coming as a solo effort.

Weathersby has battled injuries throughout his career, but looked poised for a breakout season as a key piece of the defensive line rotation.

QUESTIONABLE – DT Jaxson Moi

Jaxson Moi started at defensive tackle against Syracuse, but suffered an injury early in the game. After just a few snaps, he went down and did not return. As a result, Heupel ruled him out early in the week of preparation for the game against ETSU.

On Wednesday, he provided some hope that Moi could give it a go against Georgia.

“Yeah, there’s certainly some belief on that side of it, but you’ll be able to see on the injury report here tonight,” Heupel said.

Other Tennessee players

QUESTIONABLE – RB Hunter Barnes

OUT – CB Rickey Gibson III

Rickey Gibson, after suffering an injury early in the season opener against Syracuse, will miss Saturday’s game against Georgia. When asked the Monday following the win over the Orange, Josh Heupel gave some unencouraging news.

“Rickey will be out for an extended period here,” Heupel said. “How long, I don’t have the exact timeline on. But he’ll be out for an extended time.”

OUT – CB Jermod McCoy

Jermod McCoy, a preseason All-American and projected first-round draft pick, also remains inactive. He suffered an offseason ACL injury and returned to practice in a limited form this fall us.”

There is no clear timeline for his return at this point. In his first year with UT, McCoy managed 44 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. He came up with four interceptions, as well, including a one-handed snag against Ryan Williams of Alabama and a circus catch in the end zone at Vanderbilt.

OUT – DT Daevin Hobbs

Daevin Hobbs, a projected key piece at defensive tackle, was ruled out for a few weeks due to a foot injury suffered just ahead of the season. There is no clear timeline for his return, but he is expected to play at some point this season.

Injury reports don’t have to come out til morning of game

1. Timing of Initial Disclosure

• Football: Wednesday by 7:00 pm Central time / 8:00 pm Eastern time for a Saturday game (or, for any non-Saturday game, three nights before the game by 7:00 pm Central time / 8:00 pm Eastern time).

A. Football
In football, prior to a Saturday football game, an institution must issue the Initial Report on Wednesday by 7:00 pm Central time / 8:00 pm Eastern time and update the Availability Report once per day on Thursday and Friday (after the conclusion of practice and before 7 pm Central time / 8 pm Eastern time). I agree if he isn’t practicing this week he isn’t going to start Saturday. And even if he is healthy I think it would be wise to ease him in the rotation. Then maybe use him in the second half where he is fresher than the player across from him. It might be different if we were struggling but the O-line has played well without him so far. This is a much bigger test, I hope Sanders can play Saturday, but I think we might be better off to let him see the flow of the game and ease him in there. Only coaches know if his conditioning has been limited or not while injured. I am confident the coaches will do what is right, I will say Sanders must be pretty darn good to have nailed down 1st team status during the fall camp. He is going to help us at some point for sure.
