Because he's a high school coach in Texas, where lots of football talent resides and he wants to visit Tennessee to connect with our coaching staff.
this... plus positive publicity

a former non-Vol saying this carries a lot more weight than a VFL the fact hes a former Bammer talking positive about the head coach of UT gives it even more weight.

Talent at other schools, yes but there is no need to put John Paul on a pedestal. They've won 6 games in the last 3 years, if I'm not mistaken and read right they've yet to produce a D1 football player. The only connection here is they both played at Bama.

Pretty sure HS Coaches don't ever talk to each other.....nope, not at all.

A successful coach at the 6A level in Texas that actually produces D1 talent is probably not listening or taking advice from a 6 win coach at the lowest level of private school in Texas.

An elephant can die from too many bee stings, and a bridge can be built out of toothpicks. For the first time in a long time we have a head coach, and a staff, that are winning recruiting battles and winning over HS coaches. Coaches talk to one another, and CJP is sending a clear message to HS coaches in talent-rich areas that UT is on it's way back to the top. That translates to wins down the road, and a road that will produce top talent for years to come.

Can we not just appreciate how far removed we are from the Kiffin/Dooley/Jones years? This is a team primed to explode once the final pieces are in place, which might be no more than one more recruiting cycle away. In all seriousness, if UT can field a functional OL, only Bama, UF, and UGA are cause for concern...this year.

I'm guessing 7-5, but it would not surprise me one bit to see this team, under this staff, go 8-4...9-3...or (gasp) 10-2.

Next year? Sleeper for the SEC.

Go Vols.

Why not lead with that objection instead of "Bama"?

Agreed ! I like where we are headed. If the injury bug doesn't rear its ugly head and we get improved Oline play this season I see 8-4 with an outside shot at 9-3. 10-2 while not impossible is probably a little much to ask at this point. It may be way slower than some think it should be or may be way faster than some believe possible, but I do believe we are going in the right direction and will see positive signs and results come fall.

I totally agree. The staff that CJP has assembled is outstanding. Our team is finally in good hands.

Why in the hell would I care what a former Alabama football player thinks about the head coach at UT?
Because he's a high school coach in Texas, where lots of football talent resides and he wants to visit Tennessee to connect with our coaching staff.
And... You know... Our coach is also a former Alabama player.

I understand that coaches on all levels try to be politically correct when referencing other coaches. For example: Saban spoke highly of Dooley. Brian Kelly spoke highly of Butch. etc. etc.
What Teague says about Pruitt doesn't phase me at all. Teague may be trying to get noticed by Pruitt for consideration for a coaching spot in the future on the U.T. staff.

And by the headcount, so far, I would say he has a pretty good chance of cashing in on that one.

IMO opinion this along with recruiting and the way that CJP speaks about the program looks like all the right moves. The proof is in the putting, and there has to be on field results for any of this to matter though. I am cautiously optimistic, but there is a lot of work to do. I think that we may be seeing the inner workings of what builds the foundation of a year in and year out SEC contender. The player development, game time coaching decisions, and recruiting at the top level will be the deciding factor between SEC East contender and SEC Championships and playoff births when the pieces are all together. Give it 3 years until Georgia, Florida and Tennessee are battling for the East and playing Alabama, LSU and A&M for the SEC Championship.

At least we have real life coaches wanting to talk to our staff. Not Butch Jones' make believe "people are calling us from all over wanting to know how we turned it around" (or some similar quote)
