George Quarles?

It might sound crazy, but I think GQ is quite happy being BMOC at Maryville. He is able to be a community hero with football, yet still have good quality time with his family. When he interviewed with UT, he did not yet have a son, iirc, so that may not have been an issue at that time. Additioanlly, his extra title of "Athletic Director" assures that he will remain a very well compensated member of the Maryville School System. He could probably double his salary as an assistant coach at a big school, but it would very much take away from his family time.

CGQ already had a son when he was interviewed by Fulmer. Hg in Me most likely would have teaken the job had it been offered. I know GQ pretty well and know he loves living in Maryville and one of his big concerns would be the stability of the coaching staff at UT. Him and his wife just had a new baby and I think it would have to be a very lucrative job to pull him away from MHS.

I do think it would be a great hire though, I'm just not sure CDD would be happy knowing there was a better coach on his staff than him :loco:

Isn't Maryville about 20 minutes from campus? I thought many current and ex coaches at UT live in Maryville. He could still live in Maryville.

Wasn't CGQ offered the head coaching job at his alma mater (Furman) just a few years ago and he turned it down?

So your saying Tn would have to pay him more than 60-70k a year?

Yes it is, what I was meaning is he most likely take the job since he wouldn't have to move. Like I said, I'm sure the stability of the coaching staff would be a cause for concern.

Quarles would know how to recruit.

Yeah i would definitely say that is his strong suit. I would like to see how competitive Rebels would be with equal or lesser talent than their local counterparts. They have 2 players at every position when most teams are lucky to have 2 or 3 players of any count on their total roster.

And you think they have two players at every position because of recruiting? K.

He makes much more than that. He is the HFC and the AD at Maryville High. He has turned down offers to be the head coach at Furman and Brentwood Academy. I'd be willing to bet money isn't really a problem in the Quarles household.

This had nothing to do with money but more about moving. I'm telling you the guy loves Blount county

If he could recruit and no one else could like he does at Maryville then im sure it would be a great fit. apples and oranges.

GQ is a fantastic coach and I think he could be successful in college. He is football smart and a great leader / motivator. He consistently beats teams with more talent (when they get to state and play some of the West TN teams). Those of you that think he would fail in college are crazy. He has all of the intangibles as well as the football brilliance to be successful.

However, as many have previously posted, the word is he doesn't want to leave HS football. If he doesn't need the money or notoriety, then stick with H.S. The hours are great, the rewards are great (molding boys into fine young men) and he's home every weekend.

I suspect he is not motivated by money or fame and he is a family man that is quite contempt where he is.

Im just saying if we are going to hire a high school coach lets get one that dominates in a more competitive state or region. Tennessee high school football is lagging behind most of the southeast.

Not the water. It has more to do with the fact that Maryville football is more than just High School football. 50% of the guys playing for MHS played together as Southerners, Rebs, and Bulldogs before they even go to Freshman orientation at MHS. Maryville football is cradle to grave.
