It might sound crazy, but I think GQ is quite happy being BMOC at Maryville. He is able to be a community hero with football, yet still have good quality time with his family. When he interviewed with UT, he did not yet have a son, iirc, so that may not have been an issue at that time. Additioanlly, his extra title of "Athletic Director" assures that he will remain a very well compensated member of the Maryville School System. He could probably double his salary as an assistant coach at a big school, but it would very much take away from his family time.
