George Barlow a possibility at DB coach?

Is there any other names we are looking at for DB coach? Is Fair better than Barlow? And when do we think this move will be made, if it even is?

don't expect much until movement until maybe after coaches convention. might see something on OC but probably it until late next week

Shoop and Barlow have spoken. Not sure how far it has gone or will go. Barlow has a buyout that must be paid so that could be stumbling block

If we promote Scott would that save us money allowing us to get a good QB coach and other position coaches? Or am I thinking backwards

understand we have 1.5 to 1.8 for OC / QB coaches

Interesting. To me it makes sense to promote Scott sense he probably knows the lingo, and hire the best QB coach we can find. I like Barlow because Shoop is familiar with him. It makes a lot of sense but I guess we will see if we're willing to go that route

I'm a bit amazed that we're willing to put up that much $$$.

That's a good sign that buTch and Hart and whoever else is thinking seriously about good upgrades.

THANKS for the info that you bring to us here my friend.

Please keep up the excellent work!

VFL...GBO!!!

Is that is the AFCA convention being held at Gaylord? Looks like that starts Monday. Maybe someone can hide out in the bushes in the Conservatory and get some intel...

How about Malik Foreman as DB coach now. He could teach the youngsters the art of giving up on coverage when you are sure the QB will never throw at the WR you are covering and also teach them how to whiff on virtually every RB you tried to tackle in your career to keep the injuries low and the uniforms clean. Those smokey greys don't look good with mud or grass stains on them.

This is sad on so many levels. instead of pointing out the handful of low lights in four years, why don't you look at the numerous highlights he produced. He is a good kid from a good family and has busted his hump since he has been at UT.

This is interesting to me. With that amount, we could hire the best OC/QB coach on the market. Heck, with 1.8 we could've lured Lane Kiffin away from Bama and outbid LSU. If this is true, then I wonder what they're going to do with the rest of it? Bc if we promote Scott then he'll receive a small bump in pay and an QB will get some of it, but there's no way we spend anywhere close to 1.5 if we promote Scott. If we really have that much money to spend, I feel like we're missing a big opportunity by not hiring the best guy available.

Obviously wasn't serious. He's arguably the best OC in the college game today and with 1.8 to spend that could get the best and he's been the best. I get it though, you're still salty all these years later.

why go get a big name hire? Just hire within. Someone that already knows the offensive system. Makes more sense. The offense was really good this year. no need to bring in a big time Coord to change it.

Lot more to being an O.C. than just knowing a system imo.

Knowing how to set up a defense for plays and exploiting a team weakness is just a couple.

Not saying Scott could not do well, I just prefer someone who has shown they can do it at a high level.

It's been like 8 years. That's enough to get over it and realize Lane took not only his dream job but also a better job than UT at the time. I'm not gonna be mad at anyone ever for taking their dream job because we'd all do the same thing. Yes, I know Lane has said he knows he messed up and wishes he'd done it differently.

I'm just saying if we have 1.8 to spend that could hire some of the best coaches in pro and college. It seems like we're gonna hire and couple average guys. Teams that want to win are hiring the best, not what's safe.

Acted like a immature kid when he left, and has continued to. He has done nothing to make me think that he appreciated the opportunity here or the fans, in fact he seemed to enjoy poking at us before and during season.

Listen man. I'm sorry that Foreman didn't call your daughter back. But calling out our players in public is a really pathetic move. Doubling down on the trolling when we're trying to politely explain it to you makes it even worse.

Sorry dope if you can't take the the play on the field as reality, It is. Obviously there is some man-love between you two I guess.

I dont think Kiffin is quite as good of an OC as some might believe. Now he is great when he has a team thats loaded with talent like say USC and Alabama. I mean Nussmeier looked likea frigging rock star in Bama.

As did McElwain. Neither looking too good with the Gators presently.

I believe it has been said that he could open up some better recruiting in Georgia. However, at NC State he does not seem to be that strong of a recruiter. Ranked 498th overall according to 247. He only has one 4* commit ever attributed to him and that was while he was at Vandy. It's probably not the easiest to recruit to NC State and I'd imagine that he has played a key part in kids committing since he'd be their position coach, but it is not attributed to him since someone else was the primary recruiter.

NC State was 92nd in passing defense this year, but while he was at Vandy they put up top 25 numbers. I have no idea about Barlow, this is just what I've been reading and seeing over the internet. The main thing here is it seems that this is a guy Shoop is interested in and if so I'll get behind it.

What are some great DB coaches? I like Robinson at Florida, Greg Brown who was just hired by Auburn, Kirk Callahan, and I really like Terry Fair. I really think we should be looking at Fair more than Barlow.

I think we're looking ag Barlow more than Fair because of his familiarity with Shoop. We all said Shoop needed his guys and it looks like he's trying to get them here.
