I think I remember hearing that he didn't like recruiting or dealing with boosters. Think that was mentioned sometime while he was in the NFL, on some sports channel or maybe just the radio.

Didnt seem to hurt him at Oregon. And Tennessee basically recruits itself. Look at the classes Dooley and Butch pulled.

What will happen is we finish the season 8-4(loss to Bama and another team we shouldn't lose to) and we go to the Belk Bowl in NC.

what the horn blowing football experts here fail to realize is Texas and LSU both were open last yr and they engaged in a bidding war for Houston's coach. Not a Power 5 guy, but another Houston coach. A place where practically everyone has been successful in that league but have limited success in the "big time".

Get serious. That is the level of coach Tennessee will have to hire or lower. They will not be able to hire a "proven winner" in Power 5.

We have a better stadium and facilties than Texas. And we're in the SEC

No one wants to admit that Tennessee is not the glamor job but it isn't. That is why the one coach I am sure that we can get is Petrino. He can coach, forget the indisgressions.

What LWS said on another forum makes sense about Kelly unfortunately. Previous "sanctions" (yes i know the story, and no I don't think he was the problem or would be a problem for us) Would scare Tennessee off for the most part because we have a history of trying to "play it safe". Would rather get off cheap and easy imo instead of ponying up the $$$ and taking even the smallest of risk. Not a negavol but i am realistic

I'd love Kelly just afraid of the AD view on it based on previous experience. I don't see why Venables isn't a big name being thrown in the mix. Would love to have that guy. Clemson loves to take TN recruits so you know he has somewhat of a relationship with at least a few of our guys

He's a columnist for the Commercial Appeal in Memphis. Said basically.." Chip Kelly is a pipe dream" "Kelly wants nothing to do with the SEC." Also said Fuente is a pipe dream as well.

It's very startling hearing a lot of people say that Kelly isnt going to happen. It would be so easy to get him and once we have him, we win.
Stopped ready after Commercial "Appeal" in Memphis.

You guys know how this will go. First a search firm will be hired (big waste of money). Then they'll hire a guy that probably lost to Dooley and Butch..

Nobody wants to come to Tennessee. As soon as we Tennessee fans get that through our head, the better we'll be.

We have to get coaches from small programs and hope they turn out.

Well that job is locked up for the next decade or as long as Chris wants it.

Dont get me wrong, if he wants to come to Tennessee then I am all for it. I hope he at least gets a call and an offer from Currie. Although I am not getting my hopes up.

Well he coverd Fuente for a few years and knows him pretty well. I don't know how much he really knows about Kelly but it's extremely frusting hearing this bs.

I don't see why Fuente would leave VT. He has a pretty nice setup over there right now. Kelly, on the other hand, would more than likely be ours if we go after him.

I believe Kelly would want total control of program and I do not believe the powers that be at UT would grant him total control. One of the reasons Alabama has been successful with Saban is they leave him alone and let him coach and lead the program.
Kelly could be our Saban but IMO our admin and boosters will not let go for him or anyone. Bottom line - Alabama wants to win. UT admin and boosters want to win, but they want control even more.
