General Feelings On Game Two

This teams motto seems to be "a win is a win". I am thankful they are playing football each week. On to next week.

Great game to win but may be fools gold...great running by Dobbs.. Take away Hail Mary receptions (2 to Malone.. great catches..67 and 38 yds) and the passing game to wide receivers nonexistent... After first half of first game (Williams 45 yds), Williams 0, Smith 3, Jennings 7. Where are the wide receivers ? Kirkland may be lost for season. how good is Colton Jumper .. NOT ...Watch out !!! Fla., Georgia, Texas A&M, Alabama will only need to stop Dobbs and Hurd running.. Remember Virg Tech had 5 fumbles, 108 yds in key penalties.

Would not classify either Malone reception as hail mary. I do agree we need more from oline and passing game. Biggest question is where is our slot receiver production?

A win is a win, but UGA, UF and Bama won't give us the ball that many times.

As usual, UT offensive plays are incredibly slow to develop. Hurd takes forever to get up to speed and if he is hit early, he is often held to 1-2 yd gains. I don't se him getting into open fields runs 5 yds past the LOS against top level teams.

Slowly developing running plays coupled with pitiful offensive line play will mean UF can stack the LOS, pressure Dobbs and shut the running game down. Apparently, we can't throw a fast 2 step drop slant pass and put a couple of blockers in front the of the receiver.

It's a run first team.. Line up Hurd, Kamara and Dobbs under center and take your chances. Not going to reinvent the wheel at this point.. At least with the three headed monster you don't know who will end up with the ball. We're not going to have a effective passing game until someone else is taking snaps from center. The play calling at times is mind numbing as well. It is what it is.. Got to roll with it. May not be enough to get us where we want to go , but it's what we got.. Try to enjoy the ride. It wasn't long ago we were all just hoping to make a bowl game..Every time you get angry with what you see, remember where it was and realize where it's at now.. Yeah the offense needs work and hopefully can get a lot better. They're never going to look great chucking the ball all over the place. It's not what this team does well.

Of our 90 passing yards, half came on one pass. The other 40 yards came on swing passes to Kamara and two or three short balls. We have a terrible passing game. Why would you not throw a slant pattern to Williams--a big guy with big hands? Why do we not throw a single pass to our TE all game? To say that I hate our predictable play-calling--we run about five plays every game-- would be an understatement. DeBord does not impress me. If we can win our SEC games with this offense, I will sing his praises. But I don't see it happening. We damn sure aren't going to beat alabama with it.

I remember Dobbs's interception came on a pass where he had plenty of time to throw, and ended up throwing it right into the chest of a VT defender. Last week he threw an up-for-grabs interception while trying to throw across his body.

Great runner, but is making poor decisions in the passing game thus far.

Seems like with Dobbs, particularly this year, its peaks and valleys. But he did seem to take better care of the ball last season, than he has so far this season. Against FL, we won't be getting those turnovers to offset this mental mistakes.

That little bubble pass to Kamara is getting old, real fast. And where was Wolf this game? Not sure...perhaps Foster schemed him out of the game. Can't under stand why our play book is so limited, considering Dobbs' mental capacity.

m9000 & Cartervol pegged it.
I watched enough games yesterday, especially the Gators' trouncing of the Mildcats to know this team has gotta get better to meet their own expectations.

I'm putting most it on the players though, not the coaches.

Bu .bu.but ..the game plan!? The play calling!?

No one blames the players!!

Well yeah they do. Especially if you've played ANY team sport or coached a little.
The coaches' and fans' old saw of, "Wonder which team is gonna show up tonight"? is truth.

If it was coaching, after the Hokies' fumble to start the 2nd qtr, no way a team could look so different. But it was like flipping a light switch, and they began to play more like they've been coached, so I think right now, for this team 120, most of the lackluster play is the team's own self motivation, not coaching.

Sheriron Jones gets in the team's faces and says, "What you did against Appy State, You promised you wouldn't do that again!" ---- That right there tells you what you need to know. The team knows...know it ...they bringing some weak azz shizz to the field, an they have to step it up if they want hold up their heads.

Agree....we are 2-0. That's the good news!
Unfortunately we are 2-0 because the other team gave the game away. The O- line play is horrible. Don't think that can be fixed. The play calling is baaaaad. Where are the crossing routes or te down the seam? The dew passing attempt that are made are sideways or down the sideline.....use the middle of the field. The run D up the middle is weak. JRM has been a punk so far. Sooooo frustrating.
This team has top 5 talent all over the field. Unfortunately they are hamstrung by crappy o-line coaching and absolutely terrible o play calling. I will give Dobb's a half-way pass on poor decision making based on the terrible line play. But THE game is coming quick. Florida won't give the gifts that appy st and VT gave. I'm not feeling as good about Sept 24th as I did a few weeks ago!

You know.. It's a joke (and a bad one) we don't use the TE's at all. With the way these teams cheat up.. We could just leak a TE off the line, throw him the ball , i bet he'd run for about 30 yards before anyone touched him. There were times when VT crowded the line so bad, anything over the middle would still be running right now.

Tennessee rushed 46 times for 239 yards for a 5.2 average and 3 TD. That's not bad! What bothers me is the 10 receptions for 91 yards for a 9.1 average 3 TD and 4 of those completions were to RB. We've got to have a passing game!

We are lacking big, explosive plays on offense. We have way too many athletes not to be more quick-scoring than we are. Every drive feels like such a grind. I still attribute it mostly to poor O-Line play and to a less extent, uncreative play calling.

Based on the two games I've seen so far I think we look about even with how we looked this time last year. We are probably still an 8-4 team, 9-3 if we're lucky. We're not winning the east unless our OL grows up in a hurry.

+1. I wish they would line up under center occasionally like they did in the Outback Bowl. Totally different look, but the stretch play to Hurd or play action pass would be effective.

Defense has to get off the a better start and the offense has to find an offense. I think it would be a good idea to get players like Kamara, Byrd, Williams in space with a short pass and see what they can do. We need a lot more plays to slow down the rush and the stacking of the line of scrimmage.

You've got to think we're saving this and middle of the field throws for the rivals. I don't know why but who knows.

With the protection problems they may hand the ball off to the other team right now out of the I..They got to fix the protection problems. It's going to get them beat and beat bad. Love I-formation and a fullback though. That's my style of football. Old school smash mouth.. :good!:

I see you just finished your Tony Robbins course :good!:

I'm just not worried like most about the O line. If it really is as bad as many say, what does that say about Butch's recruiting and development. If they really struggle against UF, then I will be worried.

Not like we just beat a good team by three TDs or anything.

Not like we didn't force turnovers, and not like we didn't have to capitalize on them or anything.

So many of you are so eager to whine and moan after a big effing win. It's sick.

Butch had one of the best O-Line coaches in the country already on staff when he got here in Sam Pittman. However he preferred to bring his buddy Mahoney along instead. Now we're seeing the results of that decision.

VT is not a good football team. Appy State would probably beat them. Not being Nega. That's just a fact.

Delightfully sloppy and yet inspired. Glad to see some emotion from this team after the 1st qtr. Jack Jones needs way more play time. Josh Smith might need less. Doesn't seem to have his head in the game. Saw a little more variety with the play calling. Dobbs scares me every time he passes.

Would like to see more of Kamara for sure and Sheriron Jones is awesome :D

Florida looked better styling all over KY, but it was KY so who knows what to expect from either team.

Dobbs 104 yards rushing!

The team averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 46 attempts, a whopping 239 yards on the ground. Just like last year we are racking up rushing yards despite a shaky oline because we are threatening the edge so much with our speed.

The zone read was back and DeBord's offense was once again good enough.
