Ultimately, Fulmer settled on Clawson, who had interviewed the year before for the Boston College head coaching job. BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo was a graduate assistant at Tennessee in the early 1970s when Fulmer was getting his coaching start, and the two have continued to talk over the years.

Did Jags back down or BC back down on firing the guy? Fulmer would probably be interested in the job if they did fire him. We will see.....

There's no way DeFilippo will follow through with firing Jags for interviewing with New York.

Fulmer in Boston is laughable.

ESPN just said Jags interviewed and sources said he would be fired? I know....... seems crazy. How could he fire the guy?

Did someone say Jags? Wow scared for a minute. Like who's fired, oh wait.

I think Fulmer would actually be good for BC. He can recruit and you just have to be OK there, not great.

The fact that Jags could get fired is laughable but, it's about time BC stopped letting they're OC job be a stepping stone.

Its almost surreal reading that article now knowing how the season went.

Since they're never going to get a good coach on the upside of his career to work there again, the school would be a good fit for Fulmer. The city would not. Aside from the Boston media, it's hard to see a Tennessee guy taking a job up in the New England weather for the first time at his age.

Boston is a pro town, though. BC is pretty much an afterthought compared to the Celts, Pats, Sox, and Bruins (not necessarily in that order). Point being, the Boston media probably wouldn't be as critical of every wrong move as the Knoxville media.

My BC buddy says otherwise...

Fulmer to Boston is a possibility

I didn't say it wasn't a possibility. I said it was laughable.

Fulmer's "shucks, dadgummit, aw heck" schtick isn't going to impress anyone in a town that's embraced Bill Belichick.

Even the greenest, most junior guys that the Boston media sends over to cover BC would be tougher for Fulmer to deal with than the Knoxville media.

Plus the Boston media is intelligent...

Can't say the same for Knoxville media without the exception of 1 or 2.

CPF would be ravaged by the media up there....

on the surface that's a legitimate assumption, but the reality is other than BC alum and students, Boston as a city could care less about BC football, unless they're playing Notre Dame. Hell, they had the #1 qb in the nation last year, were #2 in the country at one point........and never even got front page coverage in the Globe.

personally, i think Boston College and Phil Fulmer would be a match made in heaven.

Fulmer gets to coach at a school where expectations can be managed. He gets to coach in the ACC. BC gets a bonafied head coach with a ring, and a good recruiter.

all reports i've seen say BC will fire Jags, as he did interview with the Jets.

if that does happen, you have to think Fulmer would be close to the top of their list......he and Tubberville are both out there....they'd be crazy to not interview both of them.

I can see the Boston College fan now.

In their accent:

"Huh? What the ***** this guy taulkin' bout "woorikin like heck"?

And that probably has one of the most affluent, educated communities around. Then again maybe CPF would be a novelty, they would have him speak at dinners and whisper to each other "Wait till you see how slow this guy talks."

I agree. Good fit.

But no one who is as completely anti Fulmer as some are will ever be able to see Phillip as a big conference coach ever again.

Fulmer don't stand a chance if the likes of Dabo show an interest!

agreed...but here's the kicker.........if you believe what Fulmer has said since he was ousted, i don't know that BC is what he would consider a good job.

the Boston fan base doesn't care about BC. they're not as passionate. there are the same resources. there isn't the same level of comittment there is at some other schools.

there's a certain level of acceptance at BC with 7 or 8 wins and a bowl.

as much as we all think that's what Fulmer needs, because that's what we think he's capable of now, if you believe what he's said, that's not what he wants.
