Gene Chizik on Tennessee's QB competition: Guarantano does have the locker room

Don't be embarrassed bro, we all have our preferences. Just wish yours wasn't towards a college kid, but in your eyes it's legal so all is well.

I've said this a million times, I don't like particularly like how acted on the sidelines and needed his mom to defend him, but him winning the job would be the best thing for us. Gives us QB stability for a few yrs and if he doesn't win the job I doubt he stays here. Then we have problems with QB experience next year. Plus JG turning it around is a great recruiting tool for Helton. Would show his ability to turn QB's play around and that only helps in recruiting QB's. Best thing for Vol football is for JG to win the job. Yes I think your obsession is weird AF and race based, but that isn't JG's fault. You're just one of those dudes that drives a creeper van with boarded up Windows and Barry White playing in your tape deck. But again that's not Jarrett's fault.

Like I said really sus. Like usual.

You and several others comment about the qbs and JG way more than me. Its just negative.

Anyone judging JG, or any of our other players based on the previous staff are clueless. While I don't blame EVERYTHING on the Jones regime, let's look at some facts:

- Started Jalen Hurd, now a WR, over NFL Rookie of the Year Alvin Kamara
- Limited touches to that same NFL Rookie of the Year Alvin Kamara in big situations
- Tried to convince JJ Watt he needed to switch to the OL because he wasn't a good DL
- Ran Justin Worley as a triple option spread QB for 2 years through injuries
- Tried running the same failed triple option system with a brand new OC and Dormady.
- Players never improved from freshman to senior year under Jones. At all.
- The man had us lining up in shotgun formation at the 1 yard line

I mean honestly this list could be pages long by only including obvious mistakes that aren't made at decent high school programs. The progression from game 1 to game 6 this year with our players is going to be fun, regardless of what the W/L says.

Josh Dobbs was a freaking stud, that likely wins the Heisman if he was under a different staff in college. He saved Jones a couple seasons.

Agreed. No player should be judged that had to play under that Trainwreck. To this day I still think Dobb's could have been so much more NFL ready and consistent with a staff like we have now. Any good staff would have won the East Dobb's Jr and Sr year and damn sure wouldn't have lost to Vandy. Kamara and Malone were so underused along with all the injuries that probably aren't as rampant with real coaching and conditioning. I'm honestly shocked more players haven't left with the new culture JP has brought.

Who cares what Gene Chizik says? This used to be a great site to visit but here lately I stop by every once in a orange moon. Then realize our chatty fan base has become pathetic. Take a second and read the threads. Its pitiful. Before you make a thread STOP and ask yourself if this its worth it. Lets discuss football, not comments from broadcasters or washed up or never has been players.

How about some more X's and O's?

I guess 10 years of bad decisions will do this to a fan base. Reading gossip about "what a loser like Chizik" says has got to get old to those guys dedicated to talking about garbage.

Tennessee fans have fallen just as far as the football team over the years. Its time we all dust our selves off and move forward behind the new ball coach regardless of if he was your first choice. Lets not have libtard syndrome.

If you want x's and o's youll find that here. You'll also find pseudo-coach talk based more on bias and completion % analysis, and facial symmetry....its not hard to discover which is which.

True "X and O" conversations just dont last long because of the very high level of knowledge shared by certain posters juxtaposed with the D4H crap. But look for caleb59seal and a few others. I think jason18vols, kbvol, sjt18 and others are pretty good too....but what do i know? I do know that, THEY, know their stuff and gave excellent insight into pruitts defensive tendencies earlier this year, to name one topic in particular. Yeah there are a few actual coaches that post here, and will hand you your cornbread if you assume the mantle of internet guru.

Those informative posts last about as long as a 3 way discussion on rocket propulsion and read option offenses between me, josh dobbs and werner von braun. As the discussion happens it falls into place rather quickly and neatly as long as the dumbasses(me, in this case) recognize and fall into place.

Other topics, like who the qb will be this fall last longer, because we have almost zero aplicable knowledge that can serve as a predictor. I mean thats a question no one can answer at the moment, even the guys we pay millions to make that decision....not enough data....period.

But this place is as good as us, collectively. So if you suck

I doubt Cheezit would know. I'm not sure he knew who his QB was not too long ago.

That said. I don't care who it is if the staff sees them as the best option.
I don't need to determine fanhood beforehand. Go win. The rest sorts itself out.

My two cents; JG was the top dual threat QB in his recruiting class. Got his panties in a wad after Jones didn't give him an opportunity in the kick-off game last year, became the starter after Dormady got hurt, Got hurt himself and became a sitting duck for defenses, and nowhere during that whole series of events was he mentored or developed under a QB coach. If you watched the O and W game, he looked worlds better with the development under Helton. To be touched and down in a scrimmage game is worlds apart from pressure in a real game. He had a long run in the O and W game that showed he has some wheels. Lets all wipe the slate clean from the Jones era and get behind these guys. I think we are gonna be pleasantly surprised by them.

I hope you are right about JG but let me just say this. Based on how bad this defense has looked over the last couple of years a good high school team could've caused it problems with a good scheme. So I will not be putting any stock in anyone looking good on this defense until it gets better.

It only makes sense the team is looking to JG now because he started last year and they know him, so I wouldn't read too much into that statement.

I was talking to a player the other day and he spoke very highly of Chryst and said "he just has it" referring to his presence and leadership. Don't know what that means in terms of owning the locker room, but I don't think it is a foregone conclusion. "Having the locker room" can change quickly if JG is being outperformed by Chryst (or someone else) during camp this summer.

same thing my nephew Brandon told me..
