Gen. Neyland's Maxims

Majors used to follow the maxims pretty religiously, being one of Neyland's former players.

If you want to see a team put a special emphasis on the kicking game, defense, and ball control, that's pretty much the maxims in a nutshell. Not saying they aren't important, but not the most exciting offensive football philosophy.

It was a different era then. :hi:

Majors didn't play for Neyland. Neyland quit coaching after '52 and Majors didn't get to UT until '53. He was a star in the '55 and '56 years.

I had heard the POS was going to completely do away with the maxiums and it was strongly suggested to him that this would not be a good idea.

Heard that he didn't know who the General was, want anything to do with them, resented them, and did not respect them at all and was basically forced to continue having them be a part of gameday in some form by the administration.

If that is true good for the administration.

Of course it fits with that slimeballs personality that he would disrespect one of the greatest if not the greatest college football coach of all time.

I don't recall the game last year, but CDD quoted one of the Maxims in the post game news conference....he made fun of the press, in his typical SA fashion, because they didn't know the maxims either.
