He was interested. Why should he shut down rumors when he was interested? No one from Tennessee ever called him. The powers did not want him. Let it go.

You realize there is a report out there that says he was indeed contacted by Currie.

Yea. Tennessee has 2 legit National Titles in 121 seasons. Actually one legit one. But the man that brought you that one was supposed to win them every year? Tennessee has 13 SEC titles, tied, shared or outright in 121 seasons. Get in where you fit in and do not let your misguided expectations ruin your corn hole game at the tailgate. :dance2:

We're back to the "every year" crap? No, but a UT coach should not go about decade without a conf title. That's not really seeing the bar too high is it?

Actually Ole Miss & FU (I refuse to call them UF), beat us to market. And if Currie had done his job with any competence, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Officially perhaps...the decision on Butch was made after the Georgia game. That's when the clock started...and this is what we end up with.

I agree that Gruden was never coming and neither were Kelly, Peterson, Jimbo, etc.

With the state of the program it was always going to be a 2nd tier candidate at best. With an actual AD and Haslam not pulling the strings we likely would've had that. Even with Haslam/Currie we would've likely had a quality experienced HC if they started the search offering the top realistic candidates the type of money they offered Gundy.

For the sake of argument lets assume the rumors are true and they offered Gruden and it failed, Schiano never should've been next on the list.

So yeah, they botched this every way possible. Options didn't need to be Haslam/Currie or Fulmer or down to assistants for HC.

But now that we're where we are at I think we could do much worse than Pruitt or Tucker.

I'll start by saying flame away. I don't care. Here's what I am observing on here.

Currie wasted a lot of time on this search and handled it totally wrong from the start. He botched this thing big time! We were a good looking landing spot for a HC until the whole Schiano fiasco. All of this mess was mishandled and I blame Currie and Davenport for that.

If someone thinks the fans had something to do with that, then you need to have your head examined. Currie was going rouge and doing what he wanted without consulting anyone else. It came back and bit him in the ass.

Then people were screaming for Fulmer to take over as AD, and this happened. Now I see people *****ing about him taking so long to hire someone and complaining about who he may hire.

Then the "supposed" list gets knocked down to 3 people. Steele, Tucker and Pruitt and people are saying "if this or that happens" I'm not watching this BS anymore.

Here's reality. Jon Gruden played us again. You're delusional if you thought he was going to coach college football and beg some 17 - 18 year old kid to come play at UT.

Fulmer is in charge of this search now. Since he took over, that killed a lot of the negative press on us. He may/may not make the best hire. He is playing the hand that he was dealt. That hand Fulmer was dealt had a huge, steamy **** sandwich with it.

Some of you people on here will never be happy. Hell he could hire Jesus, and some of you would still *****.

If you don't like the hire Phil makes, its simple. Don't watch it. Go follow another team if you want to. Don't go to the games. Turn the TV off when its on. If he makes a bad hire, and some of you take to the streets again, we will be the laughing stock of sports and no one will want to come here.

What we need to do is pop some popcorn, chill, sit back, see who he hires as the new head coach, see what coordinators are brought in and see how recruiting goes.

If the hire is the wrong hire, we will know in about 3-4 years. Then we will be back to square 1. Good thing about that is we will have this whole Schiano thing in the rear view.

I believe it all comes down to not just the head coach, but who the coordinators are. If we get a mediocre head coach and rock star coordinators, we will be alright. Just chill and lets see. Please stop with the negativity though.

Recruits, Parents, Media etc. are watching. The negativity doesn't help at all.

--Posted like a Vol sheep that has been trained to accept and love mediocrity.

--NEVER re-hire any one that has been fired. Fulmer should have never been re-hired much less made AD.

This attitude is why we are screwed.

Why's that? All I said was that Pruitt, Steele or Tucker are better suited than Lyle to run this ship. All three of these guys are running defenses that are legit at schools that are at the top of the food chain. Meanwhile, keep in mind that UT was dead last in the SEC this year. How is it not an improvement to get one of these guys in here to steer the ship in the right direction? You're delusional if you think a top flight head coach is coming here right now. UT is in the crapper, probably worse than ever. This is not 1998. Maybe in five years of improvement under these guys we will once again be one of those at the top of the food chain, and one of those guys may be a gem of a head coach that we can keep long term. Who knows? But for now I'm being realistic. After the insane week we had last week we're lucky that anyone wants to come.

How exactly is that an attitude that's screwing us?

Gruden is a fabricated pipe dream. He is irrelevant to the real discussion and issues

Fulmer was hired to do what UT always does. Cheap hire that won't empty the stands and keeps the cash flowing. They simply aren't interested in championships on any level in any sport

I normally don't agree with you on much, PJ, but you nailed it on this one.
