Gruden is a fabricated pipe dream. He is irrelevant to the real discussion and issues

Fulmer was hired to do what UT always does. Cheap hire that won't empty the stands and keeps the cash flowing. They simply aren't interested in championships on any level in any sport

I keep seeing this and am not sure what's meant.

Championships equals money and everyone in the AD knows this fact. My guess is paying a successful coach 2 million extra per year is more than recuperated in revenue. Which this fact isn't relegated to only being known on message boards.

If they are intent on hiring cheap is more because they have a low risk tolerance and are afraid of a spectacular failure by their high paid high profile guy.

Of course as always this is just my opinion.

I'll start by saying flame away. I don't care. Here's what I am observing on here.

Currie wasted a lot of time on this search and handled it totally wrong from the start. He botched this thing big time! We were a good looking landing spot for a HC until the whole Schiano fiasco. All of this mess was mishandled and I blame Currie and Davenport for that.

If someone thinks the fans had something to do with that, then you need to have your head examined. Currie was going rouge and doing what he wanted without consulting anyone else. It came back and bit him in the ass.

Then people were screaming for Fulmer to take over as AD, and this happened. Now I see people *****ing about him taking so long to hire someone and complaining about who he may hire.

Then the "supposed" list gets knocked down to 3 people. Steele, Tucker and Pruitt and people are saying "if this or that happens" I'm not watching this BS anymore.

Here's reality. Jon Gruden played us again. You're delusional if you thought he was going to coach college football and beg some 17 - 18 year old kid to come play at UT.

Fulmer is in charge of this search now. Since he took over, that killed a lot of the negative press on us. He may/may not make the best hire. He is playing the hand that he was dealt. That hand Fulmer was dealt had a huge, steamy **** sandwich with it.

Some of you people on here will never be happy. Hell he could hire Jesus, and some of you would still *****.

If you don't like the hire Phil makes, its simple. Don't watch it. Go follow another team if you want to. Don't go to the games. Turn the TV off when its on. If he makes a bad hire, and some of you take to the streets again, we will be the laughing stock of sports and no one will want to come here.

What we need to do is pop some popcorn, chill, sit back, see who he hires as the new head coach, see what coordinators are brought in and see how recruiting goes.

If the hire is the wrong hire, we will know in about 3-4 years. Then we will be back to square 1. Good thing about that is we will have this whole Schiano thing in the rear view.

I believe it all comes down to not just the head coach, but who the coordinators are. If we get a mediocre head coach and rock star coordinators, we will be alright. Just chill and lets see. Please stop with the negativity though.

Recruits, Parents, Media etc. are watching. The negativity doesn't help at all.

Here’s the tl:dr “if yew don’t like it, yew can GIT OUT!!” Very original OP

I disagree. You would have been correct, if they hadn't fired Currie.

But, they did. And UT replaced him with the only person currently connected to UT who legitimately knows what it takes to win championships at Tennessee. That point is indisputable... because he did it.

The next coaching hire won't be sexy enough for most of you... but the next hire will know how to win. And he will know how to win the right way.

In case you forgot, CPF had to compete against programs where boosters were buying rims, stereos and cars for recruits. he had win streaks of 5 games or more against Alabama, Georgia, etc... he went to Miami and beat the U on their home turf when they were at the top of their game and cheating like crazy on the recruiting trail.

CPF won big without cheating. He is doing his best to get a guy who can follow suit, with all the big names already off the board by the time he was handed the responsibility.

The OP who started this thread is spot on. If you don't like what is currently in play, your blood pressure would be better suited if you found an NFL franchise to follow. :)

Yeah maybe the Giants, then you may finally get Gruden as your dream coach.:hi:

I still say IF Bama or Georgia had a season like we had and tried to hire Schiano you would see the same outrage from THEM. Maybe we ARE a little more passionate...maybe more than a little...but still...there would be plenty of outrage...if THEIR hiring situation was as public as ours. We may never know...cuz i'm not sure things will ever get as bad at those places as it got here.

Jon Gruden didn't play anybody. He didn't start any Grumors. He didn't type any fake Tweets. He didn't get on any of the Jon Gruden threads on this message board and act like a Beaver and lead people on. After reading the Gruden threads, I'm convinced that we have the most gullible fan base in the country. And that isn't Jon Gruden's fault.

But it was his fault for not killing the rumors, and saying he is not coming.

Exactly.

We were the first ones on the market, and, and a Bama retread coordinator is the best we can do?

This fanbase, myself included, could would have gotten behind anyone that could be perceived as a big hire. We wanted effort to hire someone as big as we perceive this job to be. That's all. They flirted with a couple, and finally went back to our default setting.

I think I've got all the UT gear I'll need for a while, and looks like scalping tickets will be easy when I need a Saturday afternoon away from the house.

Go Vols.

Actually Ole Miss & FU (I refuse to call them UF), beat us to market. And if Currie had done his job with any competence, we wouldn't be in this mess.

It's just useless to keep believing anything is going to change while the old guard is still in control. Propping up Fulmer was really the last straw for me.

Turning over the mod scepter? We can sleep nights. :eek:lol:

But it was his fault for not killing the rumors, and saying he is not coming.

As far as I can tell, that isn't in his job description as an Announcer on MNF...... If you want to blame someone for that, put it squarely on the shoulders of Currie. He is the one that should have killed it if you think someone should have. IMO, it is a shame that you would expect anybody to have to kill that fairy tale to the media or "gullibles". Anybody with any sense knew he wasn't an option. People got trolled. Sorry you bit.

Yea, you tell em. I mean Georgia took the easy way out. They got some stupid coordinator. Clemson went the cheap way and hired the WR coach. Oklahoma promoted some coordinator. Look how bad they suck. If only they would have hired some big time sitting head coach like Arkansas, Tennessee and Florida did.

He was interested. Why should he shut down rumors when he was interested? No one from Tennessee ever called him. The powers did not want him. Let it go.

Since this is about bad fan behavior I think it is both sad and amusing all the speculation. Everyone is an expert all of a sudden and everyone has a "connection." My favorite was actually this morning when one of my patients told me he heard from a buddy of his in New York that Peyton asked Eli to ask Ben McAdoo about the Tennessee job. Just relish all the hearsay in that statement. Plus, why would anyone want McAdoo?

So it is wrong for us to hope that Tennessee could hire a big name hire like Florida, A&M, UCLA, etc. have done rather than going to DC or OC route?

sorry, they weren't even in play to come here...it didn't even cross their minds...bigger fish to fry...and, I'm glad we didn't get any of them also...it's their loss, not mine...:)

GO AD FULMER AND GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Currie did what he was asked to do by the people who are still pulling strings. His list also had better options that Fulmer's

Such a naive post. You really think he was the only coach not cheating?

Fulmer is actually the poster child for my post. Yes he won a championship and then he say around for the next decade without winning anything and thought that should be good enough. It wasn't then and shouldn't be now but it seems you are just accepting all that's wrapped in orange as the greatest. Some of us may be tired of spending money on the same circus

Yea. Tennessee has 2 legit National Titles in 121 seasons. Actually one legit one. But the man that brought you that one was supposed to win them every year? Tennessee has 13 SEC titles, tied, shared or outright in 121 seasons. Get in where you fit in and do not let your misguided expectations ruin your corn hole game at the tailgate. :dance2:

Butch was in the top 20 highest paid coaches in America. They paid a guy that bad that much. How you call that cheap is a joke.

Tennessee is not the same level program as the Alabama's and Florida's of the world. Get in where you fit in.

Any of the three options that Fulmer has picked will be an unbelievable upgrade over Lyle and will be a better choice than SchiaNO so let's ride.

The biggest lie being peddled by the media throughout all this is that the fans rejected Schiano because it wasn’t Gruden. BS. Most logical Vol fans knew from the beginning it was a pipe dream and even most of the Grudenites knew he wasn’t coming but we’re just having fun with the idea. The media, especially sports media are lazy and only talk to each other to form a narrative, not to the fans themselves.
