I'll start by saying flame away. I don't care. Here's what I am observing on here.

Currie wasted a lot of time on this search and handled it totally wrong from the start. He botched this thing big time! We were a good looking landing spot for a HC until the whole Schiano fiasco. All of this mess was mishandled and I blame Currie and Davenport for that.

If someone thinks the fans had something to do with that, then you need to have your head examined. Currie was going rouge and doing what he wanted without consulting anyone else. It came back and bit him in the ass.

Then people were screaming for Fulmer to take over as AD, and this happened. Now I see people *****ing about him taking so long to hire someone and complaining about who he may hire.

Then the "supposed" list gets knocked down to 3 people. Steele, Tucker and Pruitt and people are saying "if this or that happens" I'm not watching this BS anymore.

Here's reality. Jon Gruden played us again. You're delusional if you thought he was going to coach college football and beg some 17 - 18 year old kid to come play at UT.

Fulmer is in charge of this search now. Since he took over, that killed a lot of the negative press on us. He may/may not make the best hire. He is playing the hand that he was dealt. That hand Fulmer was dealt had a huge, steamy **** sandwich with it.

Some of you people on here will never be happy. Hell he could hire Jesus, and some of you would still *****.

If you don't like the hire Phil makes, its simple. Don't watch it. Go follow another team if you want to. Don't go to the games. Turn the TV off when its on. If he makes a bad hire, and some of you take to the streets again, we will be the laughing stock of sports and no one will want to come here.

What we need to do is pop some popcorn, chill, sit back, see who he hires as the new head coach, see what coordinators are brought in and see how recruiting goes.

If the hire is the wrong hire, we will know in about 3-4 years. Then we will be back to square 1. Good thing about that is we will have this whole Schiano thing in the rear view.

I believe it all comes down to not just the head coach, but who the coordinators are. If we get a mediocre head coach and rock star coordinators, we will be alright. Just chill and lets see. Please stop with the negativity though.

Recruits, Parents, Media etc. are watching. The negativity doesn't help at all.

Many of you want to blame this on the guy wanting Jon Gruden. Most of us just want a name, a proven guy. It doesn't have to be Gruden, just a name that excites the fan base. We continue to trot turds out as our HC. Don't blame Gruden or the fan that wanted him.

I agree. Can't stand all the whining and complaining about everything. Time for another VN hiatus.

Jon Gruden didn't play anybody. He didn't start any Grumors. He didn't type any fake Tweets. He didn't get on any of the Jon Gruden threads on this message board and act like a Beaver and lead people on. After reading the Gruden threads, I'm convinced that we have the most gullible fan base in the country. And that isn't Jon Gruden's fault.

So to ensure i understand you correctly, you are mad because people are expressing different opinions on a message board?

Oh and you are insane if you dont think fans were a contributing factor to the mess we have had over the laat couple weeks.

What’s three or four years after the last nine or ten years?

At this point, the “Go Big or Go Home” choice has been made. Too many buyout $ to go big. So we try an OC/HC Hail Mary.

Hard to believe the lack of resolve to succeed. Forget Gruden & Kiffin. Outside of raising the price of Head Coaching poker, what will this hire yield?

3 sure wins in ‘18. A six week stretch beginning on 9/22/18:

TSIS
@ UGA (D’Andre Swift was just that in the 404 last Sat. Big class coming in)
Open Date
@ Auburn (JuCo U)
TSIO
@ So Car

At that point, we are 2-6...

Roll the dice on the coordinator hire...yeah, that’ll work...

Wishing I am wrong, and that it’s a great hire...

true but all he had to do was say he's not interested.

wow you're so abstract. or maybe you think it will be like a movie?

it's not. be realistic. OP is right.

good luck on your not being a sheep stance while waiting on Gruden.

Gruden has nothing to do with it

Red herring response

Gruden is a fabricated pipe dream. He is irrelevant to the real discussion and issues

Fulmer was hired to do what UT always does. Cheap hire that won't empty the stands and keeps the cash flowing. They simply aren't interested in championships on any level in any sport

Gruden is a fabricated pipe dream. It really means very little outside the world of social media e-cred seekers

Fulmer was hired to do what UT always does. Cheap how that won't empty the stands and keeps the cash flowing. They simply aren't interested in championships on any level in any sport

Exactly. The proof is in the pudding

Finally, someone has made a true statement on here. None of these great coaches on this site seems to understand that all this bull they say on here as well as showing they're dislike of everyone that we try to get hurts the program. If you was a recruit, would you come to Tenn? Can't make no one happy, on this site they put down everybody. Please, go follow another team.

He didn’t say anything at all. He was deliberately cryptic.

And it was all just to get attention. The longer he dodged the question, the bigger the “grumors”. And that meant more media attention. More media attention for a guy like Gruden means job security. It was a brilliant move but makes him look like a cryptic, dishonest POS. And if that’s the case, we don’t need him anyways.

As terrible as this sounds, proof is in the results over the last 15 years. Even our Lady Vols have been left to decay.

I'll also add, if UT wants to go cheap then so can I.

Ditto

I generally have rolled my eyes in the past when people proclaim that, but after this entire debacle I think it’s serious. Mostly because I feel the same way

Exactly.

We were the first ones on the market, and, and a Bama retread coordinator is the best we can do?

This fanbase, myself included, could would have gotten behind anyone that could be perceived as a big hire. We wanted effort to hire someone as big as we perceive this job to be. That's all. They flirted with a couple, and finally went back to our default setting.

I think I've got all the UT gear I'll need for a while, and looks like scalping tickets will be easy when I need a Saturday afternoon away from the house.

Go Vols.

I don't see this whole master plan of make UT okay while they make money. Sure, you could make that argument for the past decade but before that we were top team. So that illogical scheme can only hold up for so long before they legit start losing money and support. They could only capitalize on us on the verge of success so many times before the narrative doesn't please fans. Also, more NCs/Conf Champs=more publicity=more money. Simple marketing.
