Gee, Chuck Smith...

CCS IMO is a very big loss, why UT can not keep a coach longer than a year is beyond me. How can we teach VFL, yet those selling it are not living it, esp. Since the guy leaving is a former Vol!

I'm not sure what CCS did but if he did less than Orgeron then he was flat out pathetic.

I knew that Wilcox and Smith were in a tiff but Zasnow stated in another thread that Smith actually popped Wilcox in the mouth. I think Dooley gave him until the end of the season at that point. He had to go as professionals should not act like that.

If this is true CCS had to go for lots of reasons not the least of which is legal.

Work place violence not funny anymore.

Never mind about my question, I just read above my post and saw that he hit wilcox. I guess that would be a good reason to let someone go.

Chuck Smith might be DL coach for NFL, Derrick Morgan once said he wants Chuck Smith to be their DL coach for Titans...

Under Majors and Fulmer coaches were allowed to stay because of friendship/former players.

Looks like Dooley wants coaches period show you can do the work or move on.

I hope thats the case and not some stupid situation where coaches could not get along.

Can you elaborate? Do you have inside info?::unsure:

I was well aware of a tiff back in the fall and believed it was placed on the side until the end of the season. It appears all parties involved could not et past the inicdent nor can you have a subordinate hitting a boss and expect nothing to happen. According to Zasnow, who is an insider, the hit took place. Someone else confirmed seeing Wilcox with what apperaed to be a cold sore. Well, 2+2 =4 and 4= fat lip to me. :)

To those who think this was mutual it wasn't.

And give Dooley props for making a swift call to make an improvement instead of letting it fester.

Sirmon was very valuable last year. So much so that Dooley wanted him full time. This is an upgrade.

Absolutely agree. Apparently, LT was having to make DL adjustments in game because CS was incompetent. This is an upgrade.

Im not sure either is going to leave a lasting positive mark on ut for coaching. The other side is still debatable.

As long as its a situation where Dooley feels that he can make the team better with the move. I would be upset if CCS was let go solely based on a relationship issue.

Believe it or not, having your incompetent DL coach being belligerent with the rest of the defensive staff makes the team worse.

Question: How exactly do you know what Chuck Smith did in training? It's pretty apparent a lot of players called to be tutored by him.
Half the elite guys in the NBA have been trained in the offseason at one point or another by Tim Grover. Don't see anyone rushing out to put him on the sidelines.

I didn't see it as a bad hire at the time. There was reason to think that Smith could have grown into a good DL coach, but obviously, it just didn't happen.

He gave him a shot. It didn't work. Kudos to Dooley for putting friendship aside for the betterment of the program.

It'll be interesting to see how many contributors on the DL next year are Orgeron recruits vs. how many are CCS recruits.

No it want... It will be more interesting to see if we have a DL that contributes period regardless of who recruited them...
