we dont have a technical starting FB but we use a TE in fullback situations alot of times. Ellis seemed to play that role alot this year even stocstill. I would assume that would be the role they would try gavin in.i was under the assumption thats what there grooming jakob johnson for. would love to see them incorporate some sort of I formation though with him leading the way for hurd.

Well, that's fine, but if we "use a TE in a fullback situation" ... then I want two TE's in the game, or better yet, a TE and a fullback. And better still, a TE and a fullback, both of whom can block AND both of whom have decent hands to catch the ball.

With those 3 in the back field wouldn't suprise me to see a type of a wishbone which you could throw or run or flex out of. done right that could be leathal.

Real football on occasion. The I-formation is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

Not if you have the personnel for it. Too many people have gotten caught up in the new age offense that non traditional teams have displayed. But notice none of them have won a championship. If you have the personnel to line up in the I and run different sets out of it then you can have major success. Tennessee will have the most dominant rushing attack in the SEC next season and beyond.

Auburn won a National Championships recently and runs a New Age Spread type offenses.....

Tennessee will have a Dominant running game but it won't be because of an I formation....We had a Dominate Run game this year and didn't have an I formation until the Bowl game. It was a wrinkle to throw off Northwestern since they hadn't seen it all year. Don't expect to see that formation dominate our offense we are primarily a shotgun team that wants to spread out the defenses. That will be the majority of our offense.

Love the offset I formation in the bowl game. Most of them went for big gains including a PA pass to TE.

Yep. Every single play under center went for a significant gain. It was like NU had never seen such a concept before. Just perfect offensive design by Debord that time.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to have a lead blocker in short-yardage situations. I've often wondered, and maybe I completely missed it, why they don't use Hurd and Kamara in the same backfield more often. Numerous plays could be run from this formation making it very hard to defend. Then again, my football knowledge is very limited.
my guess is to keep the opponent guessing more? Haha... Seems to forecast run, although Butch Jones is a believer in smash mouth football, so maybe it wouldn't matter.

3rd and 1 just line up in the I and give the ball to the tailback and let him follow the full back, thats the way football was once played.:)

I think the bowl game was a foreshadowing of some things to come.

That would be great actually, and it means Hurd will be running out of the I like god intended (hopefully).

Would be a nice wrinkle to add to the offense. We need a formation to make better use of Hurd in short yardage situations and Bryant is supposedly the hardest hitter on the team.

Auburn has a run dominant scheme. They are able to do that at a fast pace and have had success, but I bet if you look at the breakdown of the plays called you would see about 60-65% of Auburn's plays called are run plays with a pass option attached to it
