Which still doesn't answer the question: What benefit do Tampa fans get from Dungy winning a Super Bowl in Indianapolis?

Oh if that's the question, I guess not much. Other than having the knowledge that Dungy can win the Superbowl and that they probaly made a mistake in firing him. It could benefit them in their decision on hiring their next coach.

I notice you didn't dispute the rest of my post. I'll take that as affirmation that I'm right. Thanks.

The point of the Dungy victory is that this whole nonsense of so and so can't win the Big One is nothing but media created/fan supported RUBBISH. If you can play, or coach, at the NFL level, you have what it takes.

They said this crap about Elway- wrong.
They said this crap about Manning- wrong.
They said this crap about Dungy- wrong.

John won the super bowl because he inherited an incredible Defense, and the fact that the opponent was his ex team and knew the personell and plays as well as anyone could ask for.
Which in no way changes the fact that it took Gruden one year to do what Dungy had failed for years to do. Did Gruden have some kind of connection that allowed him to go into Philadelphia in the NFC Championship game and win, the very place where Dungy was embarassed in his last game as Bucs coach?

Brilliant logic. A guy has continually failed to do the job for us, now goes somewhere else and wins, so we never should have fired him. I bet Bob Kraft is sitting around right now wishing he had never fired Pete Carroll and hired Bill Belichick.

Pete Carroll still hasn't won a Superbowl.

I can't rank 1 coach higher than another just because he has a ring. Over the long haul, who has more victories? Who's turned more assistants into more head coaches? Who's coaching has influenced the entire NFL?

The answer, by a gargantuan margin, is Dungy.

AND he has a ring too.

Who cares how many assistants go on to be head coaches? By that measure, Johnny Majors and Frank Broyles are the two greatest coaches in college football history.

I'm not really trying to knock Gruden, I think he's a pretty good coach. I just think I would rather be in the Colts position than the Bucs for the next few years. Let's just say I think the Colts' are pretty happy with the Bucs decision to fire Dungy.

I care, because it shows whos got better coaching systems. Great coaches make other coaches better. Look at the great coaches like Bill Walsh, and Bill Parcells. You know how many quality coaches have got their start with those guys? INCLUDING Gruden? It's HUGELY important. And a sign of how much a head coach is respected in NFL circles. Noone hires Jon's guys because he's not a good mentor, and his systems haven't proven to be effective.

He's also not a players coach by any stretch, and you'd be hard pressed to find many guys down here who really love him.

Now that the Super Bowl monkey is off Tony's back, you can't name 1 damn thing Jon has that he doesn't have already in spades.

Gruden has to get into the playoffs this year to save his job, everyone knows that. That's why he pooped his pants when Calvin Johnson got picked. He knew he needed an immediate impact weapon and didn't get it. He would have gladly mortgaged the Bucs future and traded up to get CJ just so his beloved offense could look pretty. Luckily, ownership didn't let him.

Again, that ring does what for Tampa Bay fans?

That's fine. It'll take Jon about 35 seconds to get another NFL job. In the alternative, he'd have his pick of any open BCS Conference job in the country. I'm sure he's terrified about his future employment prospects.

You mean other than win a Super Bowl with a team that consistently vomited all over itself under Dungy's direction?

Well we're at an impasse friend, I agree to disagree. I just hope Knoxville isn't where he gets his next shot.

Assuming Futiak is correct, and Meyer is a couple of seasons away from the NFL, is there any chance Spurrier re-takes the helm in Gainesville?

I can't imagine him going back to Gainesville a) at his age and b) as long as Jeremy Foley is the AD.

Correct.

After Foley's recent gaff, I would say that Meyer will be at liberty to pick and choose the job that is right for him without any fear or imposed limits. I do not expect him to be around in three years.

I suppose that we will get to see what the wonderfull spead offense will do in the SEC this year. Remember that Meyer has not had the QB in place to run the spread, now he does. Meyer won the NC last year because he did the smart thing and didn't ask Leak to run the spread, plus he had a great defense. I just don't think that the spread will work game in and game out in the SEC, way too gimicky. A pro style offense is much better. Plus Florida's great defense from last year has evaporated. Florida will go 10-2 or 9-3 this year, with a loss to Tennessee. JMO
