Gator Bowl rumor thread (merged)

DeerPark said that bowls are required to select any team that has a winning record over a team that is at .500. He said it was added to the contract for bowls when the 12th game was added, as you were previously required to have a winning record in order to be bowl eligible.
The 1 game separation is true except for when dealing with the aforementioned scenario (i.e. a 7-5 Florida team must be offered the spot over a 6-6 Tennessee team)

This.

There is a post on one of the myriad of bowl threads that shows the NCAA rule. You can't pick a 6-6 team above a team that has a winning record. The one game difference guideline only applies to teams with winning records. The 6-6 teams must go last. Thus we are fighting it out with UGA & UK over the Music City, Liberty, & B'ham bowl.

Still - We're goin' Bowlin' :dance2:

:good!:

Any bowl, IMO, is better than no bowl.

Go VOLS!!!!!

If you really think we will be anywhere near a 10th ranked recruiting class in the SEC, you need to follow recruiting a bit more.

Admittedly, I'm not a recruiting fanatic, but I see that UT has moved up to 8th or 9th in the SEC, depending on the source. I consider that somewhere near 10th, since Auburn and Miss State are barely behind us. Auburn is playing for the NC and the NCAA has cleared Cam for the Heisman, so the Tigers will likely get a bump.

Back on topic, I see the Gator Bowl taking the Dawgs over the Vols, if they don't want Florida.

First off, we would NOT handle Michigan... No more than we handled Kentucky at least. D-Rob will have a hell of a game against our Defense and I could easily see this as being a 45-42 game in either team's favor; just as easy as it could be a 35-14 game in either team's favor. Personally I would love this match-up, however. Two historic powerhouses going at it head to head. The name recognition of these two teams alone would garner interest around the nation. I hope we go to the Gator bowl to play Michigan, but at the same time I kind of feel bad for how many of our fellow fans have already bought MCB tickets.

wonder if we would play Louisville...

I hope not. I'm hoping for Michigan, Miami, or UNC-in that order. Name recognition/rivalry-esque games would be most enticing for me. Michigan and Miami alone give us the name recognition, not to mention the history between our football teams. And then UNC would be good since we kind of have a thing going on since we dropped them from our schedule.

Except... there is more and more chatter that the Vols would play Maryland in the MCB. With the Muffler Bowl rumored to have chosen Clemson, the Champs favoring NCSU and the Sun wanting Miami, the higher-ranked Maryland could fall all the way to the Military, if the MCB doesn't take them. I don't find the Terps and Vols appealing at all. GT would be good, though unlikely.

We have so many holes to fill due to Fulmer's mistakes that it hard for us to focus on recruiting rankings. Linemen generally do not help your rankings and we are having to fill a lot of gaps here. We have the skill players except for that flashy RB and that is where your stars come from.

Also, the Dooley is recruiting kids that he trusts to develop with smarts and athletic ability. That is obvious when you see all of these other schools trying to get in on these players after we have discovered them.

The recruiting services are a good guessing system. Just ask Fulmer what they did for his coaching career?

Lineman bring down a recruiting class? Maybe if you take as many as we are, but lineman are not all rated low, so nice argument there, and thanks for the recruiting lesson, but you aren't gonna be telling me anything I don't already know about recruiting. I live in that forum. Also why did you even respond to me, I was not talking to you

EXACTLY. That's the problem with the off projections, like the ones from CFN - they don't know the rules. Their order is bungled by the idea that the C-F-A would take (6-6) UGA over (8-4) Miss St, bumping TN down, but per the rule, they can't do it.

As you said, the MCB must decide between UGA, KY, and TN, since they pick before the Liberty & B'ham bowl. They had KY twice already, so want someone new, and they KNOW they will draw well with TN (mostly because we are on the upswing and glad to be there). Getting NC would add the drama factor, so I believe that's the matchup if they have the option (MCB picks fourth in the ACC, so it depends on who the Champs Sports Bowl takes to face likely Notre Dame).

There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to beat Michigan. Our coaches have a month to prepare for Robinson and their defense is one of the worst i've ever seen.

Uh, a little sensitive are we. I guess that grench ate your lunch too. I responded to a public comment not a private message. If you do not want people making comments then post on a private board.

But on your point. We had a some great line classes that underachieved and some average line classes that overachieved. 1982 class was not a star class but was one of the best in UT history that took us to the Sugar Bowl. Fulmer was a great position coach and did an excellent job of developing OL line talent at that level.

And thanks for the compliment!!

1) For those saying UT could "contain" Robinson, don't be stupid. He would torch UT for 200 yards. However, Bray could have 400 yards on UM.

2) Please don't let this be true, I'd rather watch both my teams win.

I think I could live with Robinson with only 200 combined on the air and ground. Now if You think he would rush for 200 then you're the one that doesn't need to be stupid.

I personally would love to see us play Michigan. We could throw up Memphis Numbers on their horrendous Defense, and one more loss would go a long way in getting Rich Rod Fired.. I hate that man

The grinch is an avatar, not a real thing, I doubt it eats anything sir. :birgits_giggle:

And you're welcome on the compliment, We are all Vols in the end:rock:

I would love to play Michigan again too. I think we would spank that ass.
Denard is all that team has, and no way in hell does he beat the Vols by himself. I want the Vols in the MCB though, so I can go, and everyone that has bought a ticket doesn't get ripped off.

Either MCB or Gator Bowl will be great games, and I'll be there regardless! Just win baby

That is technically true BUT in all due respect if we've learned anything about the Outback Bowl it's that bowls will bend the rules 2 get their team. Just like last year. If the Outback takes Florida, then I promise we will be in the Gator vs Michigan. It's a done deal. BUT that is only if the Outback takes Florida. If not it's MCB. So to recap IF Outback goes Florida then Chikfila will go SC, Gator will go Vols and the real mystery will be how far does Mississippi State fall. They may get treated like us in years past. Either way Go Vols!

Tennessee/Michigan could be the highest scoring bowl game this year...if this happens. I don't know how we'd stop Robinson, but then again, Denarius would raise his draft stock by two rounds in this game.
