It appears I'll be staying in Gatlinburg for the TxAM game weekend. Has anyone had experience staying there on a game day weekend this year and driving to Knoxville for the game. I'm trying figure out how long it will take considering I'll have to drive thru Pigeon Forge with that traffic hell.

I’ve done that before. It was car week. There were classic cars lined up on both sides of the road for a long stretch. It seemed like forever but it was only about 30-45 extra minutes.

I get antsy in game day traffic and tend to leave extra early to help with that.

I’ve done it several times. It really wasn’t that big of a deal. Takes about 45 minutes once you get to Pigeon Forge. I always end up going the back way down 441 and 411 to stay off John Sevier Pkwy between Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.

That's commitment... leave GATLINBURG to watch the 2020 JGs
well, I'd like to credit it with commitment but in actuality its between going to the game or going shopping all day long with the women. Lesser of the two evils. Hell, I'd go to a Vanderbilt game wearing a Sarah Fuller jersey before I'd say "sure honey, lets go shopping"

We were in Gatlinburg two weekends ago. It was absolutely packed and lots of traffic. Hard to predict the time, but leave way early.

You might want to consider taking the Veteran's Parkway to 441 and then take either Chapman Hwy or the access road to I-40. There is always going to be some traffic, but should be manageable.

Just remember to check all weather reports and watch for black ice on windy mountain roads.

I seriously doubt traffic is going to be an issue...everybody is done watching this garbage.

Me and my wife were just up in Gatlinburg the weekend of the Kentucky game it was packed in Gatlinburg and in the Smokies but the traffic to Knoxville that morning for the game wasn’t that bad thru Townsend and Maryville.

not worried about game traffic. I'm worried about PF and Gatlinburg traffic. Game traffic is nothing once I get out from those two cities.

I hereby resignate! Couldn't top your logic in a million years. That, sir, was pure gold!

No worries this year especially. Should be smooth sailings and plenty of parking.

Leave out of the backside of Gatlinburg, don't aim it towards Pigeon Forge. Take backside out towards Sugarlands and enjoy chasing the river all the way down the mountain to Townsend. Maybe no faster but you don't have to suffer the blight of the Forge and will have gorgeous views all the way.

We did that for Mizzou game except we stayed at The Graduate then to G-burg. We took back roads that had us cross the river by the stadium. Brought us into Pigeon Forge. I don’t remember the time it took but it was faster than getting on 40 and coming in that direction.

Good luck and have fun.

A lot of it will depend on what time of day you leave. If it's a noon kickoff and you get on the road around 9-10 AM, I doubt traffic will be bad at all. Later than that, you'll start to catch traffic especially at that time of year with potential Christmas shopping happening.
