Gatlinburg Being Evacuated

They had to leave the animals at Ripley's. Hopefully they're ok.

I saw where 30 structures were on fire there. Just terrible.

Lord this has been a bad night. Please keep the folks and responders in your prayers. I have family in Townsend, Wear's Valley, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge stretching all the way into Newport.

Phone has been blowing up all night with calls and texts from extended family checking in and looking for info on family and friends.

Does anyone know if the middle of Wear's Valley (Lion Springs) road area is ok? Our family land and family cemetery is located right up against the park. Also Little Green briar area? It is close to Medcaff bottoms picnic are. Our family cabin (Walker Sisters) and the Little Greenbriar school?

I have an email out to the park historian and other officials just waiting to hear back. My great grandfather helped build the school. My dad went there and 3 generations of our family have been married in that little school house. I may hear back soon, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Be Safe,

There were some fires down Wears Valley I am not sure how far down they went, that is opposite side of the county from me.

Sounds like Gatlinburg did fairly well, all things considered. Relatives worried that the wind picks up later this afternoon it could start things up again. Wind is not expected to be quite as bad as yesterday as they were getting 60+ mph wind gusts. Cobbly Nob sounds like its been burned pretty bad. They are now worried about mud slides if it rains an inch or two tonight.

Have a cabin in Sky Harbor No info yet but the spur looks engulfed Praying for the best and hope everyone is safe and the rains bring some relief

Thanks, I think I am going to head over that way here in a bit. I need to check on some of our family. May check the family cemetery and hop into the park to check on the Walker sister's cabin and little school house area.

Some of my family works at Westgate Resort. I don't know what they're going to do without their jobs.

Same worries here. My son and daughter in-law live close to Dollywood and work in Gatlinburg. My Daughter and her husband also. The entire area is dependent on tourism to get by. Heck, every winter most folks working in that area get laid off. This is bad in so many different ways.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Sky Harbor was one of the hardest areas hit, I hope it all works out for you.

Thank goodness Ober Gatlinburg is still standing despite conflicting reports. Just talked to them and all is okay, animals included

Hey Sig. You might be best able to do it. Can you draw a map of where the fires basically are and what has burned? I don't know what people mean when hey say the spur or things like that. Thanks.

The spur is the stretch of road between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. 441 I believe?
