Yes, not winning the East sucks, but I would think taking the Vols from 5-7 to the Sugar Bowl in 4 years would still look pretty good on a resume.

Don't get your hopes up about the Sugar Bowl. That's just another pie in the sky goal that Butch will manage to miss.

Maybe on paper. But we are just as likely to be 5-7 this year too. I really don't understand how people can say "well we are potentially about to be 9-3 and go to the Sugar Bowl just be happy." Did you not watch the same team and football season that I did? We are lucky to be in this position, and it's not because of Butch. Don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic that we have the chance of being 9-3 and going to the Sugar Bowl. But where should we be going? What should have we accomplished? The SEC is trash this year and we still managed to be runner up in the East and having to depend on other teams to help us out. Regardless, I hope Butch gets it corrected and does well at Tennessee. But right now it's not looking too good.

This is serious question there have been post in different threads suggesting he will take a lessor job. Who has voluntary stepped down from a major college to a smaller school because of the stress at said college? I'm not saying there hasn't been some, but I honestly can't think of one off the top of my head. Most wait to get fired before they go to a smaller out of necessity and because they make the University pay them their separation pay.

I may be proven wrong....I hope I am, but I don't believe Butch Jones will ever coach a football team in the Superdome.

Meaning....one way or the other we don't get there this year. Even if we beat Vandy there are a lot of moving parts that have to fall into place.

Meaning....he won't get another college team there.

Meaning....he'll never be an NFL coach and play there.

It's intellectually dishonest to change my quote and attribute words to me I didn't say.

He's not a loser...he's made more $$, and been given more responsibility than I ever have. I just don't think he's a particularly good football coach.

Look man, you have plenty of things to be upset over...

so why continually try to claim moral losses?

By that logic, I hate the 1998 team, because they really could have been a 7-4 team that wound up in a mid level bowl game.

Since Butch is nowhere in the vicinity of being fired that makes zero sense. But if you want to get nuts and assume he were to be fired this year or maybe next after another 9-10 win season at UT, he would absolutely have the option to head coach somewhere else. And likely at a decent school (see Mark Richt)

Or some could say that we got unlucky on an OT interception at aTm and a missed last FG at USCjr and deserve to be 10-1. Our record is what our record is. I really don't get people who like to chalk our close wins up as luck and not give Butch credit, but somehow our close losses are enough to call for his head. You guys are hilarious

Yeah but you can do that all day and many, many teams can.

There's only a handful of teams I can think of that you can't point to a game or 2 a year and say "They could have easily lost that game". Maybe the 1995 Nebraska team, 2001 Miami team (don't remember if they had a close loss or not), and so far this year's Alabama team. Even our 1998 Vols could have pretty easily lost 2-3 games.

I went to UGA and I assure you that your Butch frustration is nothing compared to what Georgia put up with. Just a few that come to mind..

2009 - 8-5
2010 - 6-7
2013 - 8-5

Volnation would have drowned Butch in the Tennessee River if he put up those records that far into his tenure

Georgia just fired Richt after a 9-3 season. Will they love Kirby Smart? Maybe not. Will they regret dumping Richt? I doubt it.

After 3 straight yrs of losing seasons with Dooley and 4out of 5 losing seasons, there's not one person on this board that wouldn't have accepted 9-3 in yr 4 the day Butch was hired. Not one.

Point taken...and they may yet. My actual point was that Richt was/ is a much better game day coach than Butch will ever con his way into being.
