Gary googles himself I am sure.

Hey Gary, you can root for Tiger High all you want, Pastner cannot will your team to the relevance nationally that TN will continue to enjoy under Pearl. Worldwide We$ is gone, and Easterwood is about as scary of a nemesis for TN as Billy G in a driving contest.

Not sure what your beef is. Every single preseason poll I have seen has Memphis somewhere between 10-20. If they weren't so freshman heavy, they'd be in everyone's preseason top 10. He may be a homer, but not because he is picking the Tigers to do well...everyone is.

Andy Katz (ESPN) has them at 16, Jeff Goodman (Foxsports) has them at 13. They can't all be Memphis homers.

I generally enjoy GP's publications, though I don't always agree with him. One thing I know for sure is that his picture in all his articles creeps me out.

Odd statement. I'm pretty sure they pulled in a top 2 recruiting class without Cal or Wes.

The article I linked was not the only one. Read what he wrote about their midnight madness event. He is so far up Pastner it is hard for Josh to walk.

You have to witness this up close to understand what he's saying....GP and Easterwood....I just dont get it.....They are WRONG about so much it's really hard to take them seriously...and GP must know somebody to get the gig at CBSsports. Just not my favorite to listen to or read...

Can someone please explain why every time I read local articles, this is supposed to be our best team ever...but our ranking is not reflecting this homerage? Thanks.

Tobias Harris broke his foot.

I am somewhat serious.

He was the leading scorer in the All American game and had he not broken his foot he would have absolutely dominated. Extrapolate his stats from while he was healthy over the whole game...Sick.

Tobias has the potential to have a major impact and take us over Pitt.

There are also big ?s in the minds of most of the media regarding whether Brian Williams will be as good as he was in the tournament. Those who know about his off season conditioning think he will be even better.

We are fired up about Fields and Maymon and think Melvin Goins will be an improvement especially defensively over Maze last year.

We also believe that Scotty Hopson will have an 18, 6 and 6 type season.

If all of that happens, we are a top 10 team. But it remains to be seen.

Because we play Memphis, Pitt and UConn and possibly Villanova OOC and in conference play multiple times other teams in the top 25 in UK and UF and maybe even UGA, the writers also figure that if TN keeps winning the publicity can follow.

If we won every game until conference play we would be #1. There is no doubt in my mind. It is just not a likely scenario.

I know it sounds vague, but everything (IMO) hinges upon Hopson, Williams and Tatum. There are lots of pieces to this UT team, and they are the deepest squad in Pearls tenure. Harris and some of the other freshmen will be exactly what they are advertised to be. But without Williams and Hopson performing up to the expected standard, this team falls short of its potential in the end. Tatum is the overall X factor, IMO.

Hopson needs to work on his passing to increase his APG ratio. He also needs to work on his free throw and outside shooting. His only focus should not be driving to the basket. With his size he can be more productive in so many other ways.

Have you read about Williams?

I know you watched the Vols in the tournament and had to be impressed with the step forward Big Brian took on offense and defense.

Have you read about his off season conditioning and the change it has made in his speed and endurance? His body is more like Patrick Patterson now and less like the stay puff marshmallow.

On what planet does anyone think Hopson will go for 18, 6 and 6? I would be stunned if he averages over 3 assists per game and over 4 rebounds.
I know for a fact people who train UTBB players where not happy with the way B. Williams finished off season conditioning.
I would also caution expecting too much out of Tobias. I have not seen him play in person, but we all thought Hopson would blow up as a frosh as well. Additionally after watching Pinkston practice @ 'Nova and the St. Joe's frosh it takes a very, very special player to come in and make a huge impact like some are talking about... Maybe Tobias is that special, we'll find out I guess.

JZ did you watch Tobias in the McDonalds game? Not even close to the same player as Pinkston.

He was scoring at will and gobbling up the ball everytime it was around him.

Some of you are dumb. By his own admission (on his radio show), Parrish has said repeatedly that he is closer friendship-wise to the Tennessee coaching staff than any coaching staff in the country.

He lives in Memphis, which made it easy for him to write about their Midnight Madness. And ranking Memphis ahead of Tennessee is not a unique opinion.

I'm not sure what the beef is with Parrish. But if he's up anyone's butt, it's far more likely to be Pearl than Pastner. That's by his own admission, mind you.

Bingo. Glad to see someone knowledgeable on this board for once. That's what I tried to say on page one.

I hope Tobias is the real deal, but success in a high school all-star game is not an indicator IMO of how well he will play this season.

Sources: Ex-recruit Craft at center of NCAA's Tennessee probe - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com

yeah he is a regular cheerleader for Bruce Pearl.

That guy fawns over Memphis like it is his full time job. Maybe in a way it is.

Ranking them above us is one thing, but pimping Penny in writing to Adonis to reinforce their recruiting is his latest in a string of Tiger shenanigans.

I feel like this could be summed up best in 4 words.

It's Memphis, who cares?

You are giving Gary WAY too much credit. He could have written an article saying that Memphis Madness was pathetic and not worth attending, while ending the article with a negative piece about Lorenzen Wright and how bad the crime is in Memphis, blah, blah, blah. It wouldn't have mattered one bit to Adonis, Jarnell, etc.

Like someone said earlier, GP is as close with Pearl and Co as he is with Pastner.

Admittedly, I really enjoy his radio show. Easterwood......well......

Really think you should be criticizing someone for being up a coach's ass? Really now?
