CBS analyst Gary Danielson questions UT's ability to get over mental hurdle against Florida

“You can close your eyes and switch the uniforms with these guys and right now Florida thinks they’re going to win. And that’s really the whole thing about this football game. There is not a matchup, there’s not a play, there’s not a physicality part of the game – the biggest hurdle in this game is Florida knows somehow they’re going to win and Tennessee believes somehow how are we going to blow it this year? And it’s not just the players – last year’s meltdown in the last quarter of this game was by the coaching staff too. They took their foot off the gas, they played soft defense, they almost played a prevent defense on the last play of the game … it’s been almost system-wide – the coaches, the players and the fans have a mental block in this game.”

I don't care for Gary but he's right. We need this win more than any in recent memory. A win means we finally get that Tennessee Swagger back. A loss means we are the laughing stock of the SEC once again. Our season will be determined by Sats outcome imo. We've got to snap this streak.

I question Danielson's ability to call an unbiased game that involves Tennessee. Normally i think most announcers to a decent job but you can almost hear the giddiness in Danielson's voice when Tennessee is losing or loses. His boyfriend, Verne is no better.

Their commentary will go beyond negative. I would encourage you to turn the volume off the Gameday broadcast and crank up the radio...

Definitely a big reason why I don't like our games on CBS. Truly horrible listening to those 2

Old Gary's really going out on a limb here isn't he? He's simply stating what everyone else is thinking after eleven-straight losses. Top it off with last year's debacle and Gary may be onto something. Until a UT team actually defeats a UF team, it is yet to be proven that they can get over that hump.
I despise UF as much if not more than the tide but the cold hard fact is that the Vols have lost eleven in a row. Let's hope it doesn't become a dozen.

After watching TN play for 50 years, I can't recall seeing them being so trashed by the opposing fans, players and media before a game as I have for this game.

In my experience these are the games that Tennessee absolutely destroys their opponents.

They are speaking softly and carrying a big stick. I look forward to the big stick just whaling away on Florida for 60 minutes.

Or it could be because he's calling the game in a way to keep things interesting and we always lose on CBS.

To cancel out Gary's opinion...Gator best writer Zach Abolverdi of the Gainesville Sun thinks the gators going down.

The last 11 years, Fla has had the better team most of the time. In the last 2 years, they haven't and UT has still lost. It reminds me of the streak against Bama that UT finally got over the hurdle in '95. A number of times, UT should've won, but didn't. They finally got over the mental hurdle and blew the gates open.

UT can win if it doesn't beat itself Saturday. If they can stop Fla's offense for the most part, it'll come down to Fla's D getting points like they did in 2014 for the win. The main concern I have is how well UT's O-line can neutralize Fla's D-line. If Hall can play, I like our chances as long as we don't give them short fields and easy points off turnovers.

I am not worried about our players being soft. I am worried about our coaching staff being soft. Our players have done their part for the last couple of years only to be let down by our coaching staff.

Let us say in 2013 we were overmatched from a talent standpoint. In 2014 our new talent, the foundation for our rebuild, were pretty much all freshmen. In 2015, the team was primarily composed of freshmen and sophomores. The 2014 Florida team had 8 players drafted in the 2015 NFL draft. We had 0. In 2016 Florida had 7 more players drafted by the NFL from its 2015 team. Again, we had 0. This year we have mostly sophomores and juniors and now we have the edge in experienced NFL draft talent. That might make any concocted mental hurdle just a tad bit easier to get over. #WGWTFA

This. I don't care what damn says, but I don't think anything he said was untrue. The battle is won or lost before it is fought. I watched Butch snatch defeat from the jaws of victory a few times last year. I need to see it (loose, confident play-calling) before I believe it.

I want nothing more than to win this game, but I do not blame anyone that doubts our ability to get over that hurdle.

Vern and Gary are absolutely awful to listen to but the guy does have a point here. UF has had Tennessee's number since the 90's. In 16yrs, we've only won 6 times and I have a hard time believing UF had us in the talent department.

What they did consistently have was better coaching (Spurrier, Myer, and now McElwain.) It's a tough pill to swallow but even Muschamp was undefeated against UT. I think it really has become more like muscle memory. UF expects to win and UT thinks they just might have a chance to win if everything goes perfectly.

If UT loses again this year, the damage to the program is going to be far more impactful than just another important conference loss. UT is on it's way to becoming a punch line and dropping another one to the Gator's on our home field will be another black eye on par with last year's choking episodes.

Another poster mentioned UT's swagger. I think that is really what's on the line this weekend.

Kinda reminds me of the 85 sugar bowl. Miami had all the talk and swagger and the Vols came out and smacked them in the mouth and didn't look back.
