I'll be surprised if anyone that plays Memphis doesn't mix in at least a little zone. UCONN will always try to run off misses, at least as long as Calhoun is on the sidelines. Their halfcourt offense isn't anything special, so they'll have to attempt to get quick buckets. I can't see them doing much against a set Memphis defense. We'll learn a lot about where both of those teams are at right now. This is the first time either team has played a team with remotely comparable physical talent.

Thanks Hat, I agree. Should be a fun game to watch tonight..

Van Breda Kolff left Pepperdine and went to St. Bonaventure, where he was fired after academic fraud was uncovered.

Memphis plays really, really good defense. That always gets overlooked. All one has to do is look at their opponents field goal percentage the las couple of years to see that the Tigers get after it on the stop end.
agreed, i didn't watch the whole game, but the parts that i did see, each time they were on the def court, they seemed much quicker to the boards, much quicker to loose balls and seemed to have really good hands....not a lot of tips out of bounds etc...

and they seemed more times than not to really disrupt anything OK wanted to do in their half court set. people would seem open, and then be blanketed, and i don't think OK knew how that was happening......

and i agree about the MSU/Clemson game.....clemson is a 2nd tier ACC team, and really, Clemson winning that game had the same affect for them as it would have had if MSU won the game.

I have a feeling the SEC will be downright bad this year. There are probably 4-5 conferences who are better top to bottom: Big East, Pac-10, ACC, maybe the Big-10 and Big-12 too.

Can't remember where Hat had them in his preseason rankings.

I agree...who else is there....Arky is a decent team, but will get bounced in a regional game if they make it there...UK will prolly go dancing but not very far into the tourny...UF will be alot better than most people think, but they are not a force like they once were...If UT doesnt win the SEC this year it would be a complete shocker to me....There is just noone else in the SEC, the MS teams are decent but its UT and the rest are middle of the road type teams...

I watched enough of the games but grew kind of tired of them (Dickie V) taking shots at the Kentucky fans still in the stands. He did manage to give Bruce Pearl a nice compliment though. What I w last night shoewd me the Vols were in the samw league with these guys if not better. I predict UCONN to win tonight , they seem a little faster and seem to rebound better. Should be a close game.

which is why that's a bad loss for MSU.....the SEC teams that have games like that on their schedule, need to win them if there's going to be any credance for the SEC come tourney time.

and for a team like Clemson that is a 2nd tier ACC team behind the big 3......they definitely couldn't afford a loss to a 2nd tier SEC team.

I hate to hijack a thread with this but oh well...Alot of fans are griping about not getting E-Williams, I think the one the fans will miss the most is JJ Hixon....Has anyone seen what this kid is doing at State....I am a Duke fan and this guy is giving me nightmares, UT could have used a player like him....

Vanderbilt will also go dancing in March.

He put up 31 and 7 last night against William & Mary. A perfect 12-12 from the field.

i think you can look at the SEC at the end, and possibly say they have one really good team in TN, and 4-5 pretty good teams, and not much after that.

i don't know if we're the worst conf. out there, but not near the top this year for sure. middle of the road at best....
ARK, KY, and Vandy....and maybe some combo of Aub, Bama, GA, or FL adding some depth......probably 5 tourney teams from that group, including TN.

They better learn how to play defense....They got a really good frosh in this year, cant think of his name right but I dont see him leading them past the second round in the tourny...They struggled against Toledo in front of a graveyard type crowd...There defense is weak, but they have some talent....I will agree they may be the 5th team in....

The Pac-10 and the Big East are considerably better. However, I'm not ready to say the ACC, Big Ten and Big XII are based off what I've seen in two weeks. Remember, many felt the SEC would be down last year only to be proven wrong when March came around. The SEC East had 3 teams advance to the Sweet 16.

AJ Ogilvy could end up being the SEC Freshman of the Year.
