My son has yet to attend a game. He's been to his cousin's games @ Tenn Tech, and plenty of HS games, but those are relatively close and inexpensive. @ what age would you say a boy should come to Neyland for a reasonably good time for everyone. He'll be 3 in December, and he's well behaved, but 3+ hrs would'nt be enjoyable for either of us, in my opinion. He'd be over it after 35 minutes, and I'd be battling between being into the game, and keeping him occupied. Any experiences or insight would be appreciated. He does like fball, btw.

I started at 5 with my grandfather. The hotdogs, the wave, and the man who smoked the pipe right behind us kept me entertained.

I was 3 years old when I came to my first game. It was the 1996 Bama game. Ahh, the glory days....:shakehead:

Took my son to the Montana game a week before he turned 2. I was skeptical he would make it. Sat in ZZ where there was a little room for him to stand and spread out a bit. He slept through part of the game and loved the rest. It was cool I was listening to the lsu game on the radio and when the wife gets in the car he says "momma, I wanna go watch tennessee football".

My son is 3 (4 in Dec.), and of course the caveat "all kids are different", I took my son to the exhibition baseball game a couple of weeks ago, he had a good time for a few innings but he got bored. At that point as you stated, it wasn't much fun for either of us.

My advice is this: My son has been to three spring Orange and White games. They have the fan day before, so the kids can run around on Haslam Field which is fun. The game is $5 bucks and you can sit wherever, so there's plenty of room. If my son gets tired, I'm not out any money and how good is the second half of the spring game anyway. We both enjoy it, actually, I look forward to it every year. Good Luck.

My wife and I share your same thoughts. We have taken our young kiddos to a couple of O&W games but aren't willing to spend the cash on regular season games until the kids are old enough to halfway understand and appreciate what is going on. My kids are now 5 and 3.

Just let common sense help with the answer. Saying a 3 year likes football is stretching it a bit, don't you think? He may say he likes it, but he doesn't know. He probably likes spending time with you. I'd let it be with that and watch a few games on TV and have fun cheering and high fiving. Maybe next year, after you've re-introduced it to him, tak him to one then.

I would say find a game that is cheap such as MTSU then go to gatlinburge afterwards...reason for cheap is so that you don't feel bad for leaving early when he is bored

I'd never take a kid that young to a game at Neyland.

I was 7 when I went to my first UT home game. That's probably about the minimum age I'd set before I'd take my kid to a game.

My son loves football. He sits and watches the games. Asks all the time if we can play tennessee football. Practices place kicking. He might give palardy a run for his money next year

My son attended his first game in utero. The '02 Florida game. My wife was about 7mos pregnant and we sat through the remnants of a huricane and watched the Vols drop about 7 fumbles in 1 quarter that day.

Unfortunately the first game he witnessed was the 2009 UCLA game. Fact: even a 6yr old knows not to throw the ball into triple coverage. My God, Crompton was awful that day. It's hard work fostering a love for UT when all his friends are bandwagon Bama fans. He handled the game fine. We probably spent $25 on snacks though. Nachos, popcorn, drinks, candy, etc. We usually hit the resturants in town or tailgate hard before games and don't get much more than a bottle of water at the stadium. I think kids are under the universal belief that stadium snacks are better, b/c they're overpriced.

That's great. You guys will have every Fall to to get fired up for UT football. My dad and I still discuss every game on Sunday.

I was 21 before I got to go to my first game, but I made up for it by taking my first son when he was 1.

That's too young I'm afraid. Look at the weather too. Its supposed to be cold. I admire your courage. But, look out too for your son's health. If he gets sick, the whole family suffers too. I used to take hand warmers and I passed them out to kids sitting around me. But a child under the age of 3 wouldn't understand everything going on anyway. Try keeping him in front of the TV for a whole game first. Then, maybe next year. But you're on the right track to making him a Big Orange Fan. My Grand Kids are in NC and their all TN fanatics,

I've heard that some Vol fans were conceived right there in the stands during a big victory.

Went to my first at 21 years old for the Buffalo game.

I was a Tennessee fan before, but I'm hooked now.

IIRC, my first Tennessee game in person was the neutral game at LP back in 2002 against Wyoming when I was 8. Think my first Neyland game was 2005 against Memphis as a present for my 12th birthday.

Took my son to his first game when he was 11. For him that was a good age. He was just getting into middle school football and had a real interest. The look on his face at the volwalk getting the high fives from some players made it all worth it. Then when they ran through the "T" it was even better. Let you son be the judge.

My first game was 4, UT v. Arkansas 1993 in Little Rock. I can barely remember it now. Only play I specifically remember was the sick play action fake by Heath Shuler. Take the kid, he will enjoy it.

Thanks for the feedback. I should have added that I don't plant on taking him this year, if for no other reason than I didn't budget for it. I was thinking prob 5-7 range, but will take it as he grows and see. I mainly wanted to make sure I wasn't holding him back horribly, thus risking his football soul. He sings Rocky Top and chants V-O-L-S..... GO Vols GO! He recognizes any UT merch, and can pick them out on TV. I'm gonna continue to keep him heavy in the Vols. Meanwhile, I'll let his mom and grandmother take him to the TTU games to prep him for the real deal.
