With the injury to Downs we are hurting bad at TE. A couple of questions.

1) How does this affect game planning for the first couple of weeks? Do we try to keep Rivera off the field to avoid injury before Florida? IE.. Run a lot of 4 wide and extra lineman sets?

2) Is this detrimental in big games? Are we more easily stopped/game planned against?

We proceed according to plan. Last time I checked Downs never has played a down for UT. We have 3-4 TEs behind Rivera and 6-8 WRs. We'll be just fine.

We have 3 TEs behind Rivera who consist of:

1. King- who was just moved from LB
2- Meredith- who has been hurt since he got on campus
3. Ayres- who just got moved from the D-line and is hurt.

We need to pray that Rivera stays healthy and/or hope King is a quick learner.

Croom and 20 lbs with his speed would be perfect

Croom doesn't have enough time to put on 20lbs.

Answers to the op questions?

There is no way Croom is adding 20 lbs in 2 weeks and learning all the blocking schemes. He has impressed at WR. Any way you cut it, it's a huge concern. I think we have a lot of things we can do schematically to make sure it doesn't hurt us, but it limits us somewhat.

1. Rivera is not going to be off the field until the Florida game. He is going key to attacking NC St.'s cover 2. I see us having more 4 WR looks now than before. Don't think we will see any sets with extra linemen.

2. Not that detrimental unless Rivera gets hurt.

You need to check your facts before spewing that nonsense out of your mouth. Downs played in 8 games last year with 1 start against Buffalo.

Yea Downs played quite a bit in the beginning of the year.I think because hewas an EE he was ahead of Clear on the depth chart at #2.Although Clear caught up to him near the end of the year.

This is the best plan that came to mind

The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.
If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.
Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.
Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.
Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.
Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

King is working at FB primarily now per Dooley.

Our coaching staff will figure it out. Could affect the running game.

Read on VQ that Bart might be developing into a TE that is more than serviceable. I think he and Rivera will do fine getting us through this. Now, if they get injured I start to worry.
