In 2007 I went to Berkeley, CA to watch the Vols take on Cal. While there, my dad and I met a small group of VFLs native to San Francisco (they had never stepped foot out of Cali but fell in love with UT after seeing us on TV and subsequently deciding that "West Coast football is B.S."). Anyways, we have stayed in touch and the are coming to knoxville for the GA game this year. I would like to show them the best time possible. Other than the Vol Walk, some cornhole and beers, and seeing the Vol Navy, what should I show them to make their gameday experience the best possible?

The Pride's Salute to the Hill. Watching it from the crosswalk is the best spot, but those spots fill up quick.

Make sure they make it into the stadium for the pregame show - they can't miss running through the T!!.

The Football Hall of Fame is neat if you have never seen it. Assuming its open.

I like sitting on the grass outside gate 21 and watch the band come down, maybe check out the strip with all the fans walking to the stadium. I would say that as long as they make it to the game its a homerun. Oh, maybe show them the rock too.:loco:

Just a question, and don't take it that I'm being a jerk, but how did ya'll become vol fans without ever going to a game before?

I am from TN. I met these guys in Cali. (See OP). They told me they have been Vol fans for about 10 years and fell in love with us after watching the likes of Al Wilson and Leonard Little bust heads. They just love our passion. Also, Rocky Top was catchy to them! But take my word for it.... these guys are true VFLs if I have ever seen one!

I was a fan long long before my first game.

In the words of Gaga...Born this way :loco:

I like seeing fans come from way out of town to see their first games. The UGA game should be loud as crap to.

I hope they don't associate cornhole with Tennessee. I know it's just a game...but, JEEZ couldn't someone come up with a better name for it? Sounds right out of "Deliverance" - "you shore got a pretty mouth...wanna play some cornhole?".

On the subject....be sure you give them about a half hour or so to go to the river and see some of the Vol Navy. Only two college stadiums have that attraction and the riverwalk is nice.

Regardless, they will love the atmosphere. You can't go wrong whatever you do. I have taken dozens of friends to their first Vols/Neyland gameday experience and they have all become Vols fans....even if the Vols come in second to their home team. :good!:

Glad to hear the first timers are making it, it will be something you'll be completely addicted to.

-Night game, so get to the strip during the day and enjoy it. Grab some drinks, some food, and just soak in the atmosphere (nothing like it).
-Check out the Vol Walk, it's definitely cool to see
-River and Vol Navy is cool to see
-Take them to the Bookstore or one of the other retailers on campus, get them a hat or a shirt
-You WILL hear rocky top played about 50,000 times before the game even begins, sing every time, people will join you
-Enjoy the hell out of it, only comes around 8 days out of 365, soak it in

Writing that made me miss the O'Charleys on Cumberland, loved that place (no matter how packed it got). Always was fun to walk out, hit the package store quickly, hide your materials and make that lovely walk down the hill.
