Interesting.....

This from Tennessee this morning:

With the University of Tennessee football team kicking off fall camp tomorrow, many Vol fans are starting to make plans for the upcoming season. Today the University announced a few gameday changes to enhance the experience for fans.

Beginning with the Vols home opener on Sept. 5, the “Vol Walk” start time has been moved closer to kick-off to allow more fans the opportunity to experience the tradition and create more excitement closer to kick-off for fans and players. The “Vol Walk”, which will start one hour and 45 minutes before kick-off, will begin at the Torchbearer, the official symbol of the University, head down Peyton Manning Pass and continue on Phillip Fulmer Way to Gate 21A.

“The passion of the Tennessee fans is incredible. I want our players to be able to capitalize on that come game time. By moving the Vol Walk closer to kick-off, it will allow more of our fans to come out and support us and keep the players energy level up for kick-off, ” said Kiffin.

The band will commence their march upon completion of the Vol Walk. The band will change its route to accommodate traffic flow for fans entering campus closer to kick-off. Their march will begin at the entrance of the Joe Johnson-John Ward Pedestrian Mall, cross Volunteer, and head down Andy Holt for the traditional “Salute to the Hill” on Phillip Fulmer Way to enter the stadium at Gate 21A.

Both of these changes should alleviate some traffic congestion for fans trying to enter campus before the game.

The University is also creating “express entrances” at several major gates to allow fans who are not carrying bags to get through security faster and streamline the entrance process. More details will be released in the coming weeks.

Head Coach Lane Kiffin also announced a new addition to the team’s gameday traditions. This fall a former UT football player will lead the team in the General Neyland’s renowned maxims before each game.

“General Neyland’s maxims are a very special part of Tennessee football. I want our players to know what they’ve meant to those who played here before them. This is a great opportunity for them to understand the history and tradition and allow us to continue to connect with our former players,” said Kiffin.

The Vols begin fall camp on Tuesday, Aug. 3 with their home opener slated for Saturday, Sept. 5 versus Western Kentucky at 12:21 p.m. est with ESPN regional coverage. Season tickets and select individual game tickets are still available at University of Tennessee Vols and Lady Vols Tickets | UT Sports Tickets | Football, Basketball, Baseball and more.

Good find Eric, FWIW....They are about to show something about us on SportsCenter, they just showed a highlight of Kiffin talking at his introduction presser, so I'm on guessing here

I like the idea of moving things forward, but I'm not sure everyone will be able to see it with it starting at the torch. Mike Hamilton just tweeted that the band will start right after, and I don't know how everyone will be able to get over there and see it.

I personally like the fact that Kiffin is trying to get the fans more involved. He realizes the importance of the fans and their support, which he has stated many of times, and this shows he appreciates us, and I think its awesome. If he can produce on the field as well as he has done everything else, he will be loved by UT fans forever.

The more I watch what CLK is doing, the more points he keeps scoring in my book.

It's gonna be an awesome season, boys and girls.

I'm just curious how the Vol Walk is going to start at the torch. Won't the team have to get to that point from somewhere, or are they going to let them off of a bus or something right there?

They'll arrive at the torch via jet pack. V, B.

I was kind of hoping they might change the Vol Walk route to what they did for the O&W game this spring in order to accomadate even more people. Based on the number of people who showed up in April, I imagine this fall will have some of the most crowded Vol Walks in years.

...maybe Coach O's pregame rants and raves will have them flying so high they will vault to the Torch! Wild Boys = Wild Vols!:dance2:

The only time I have got to experience the VOL WALK was at HC'07(La Laf). I thought it was awsome. I almost cried when I saw the band come marching down the street. But the interesting thing was the timing was perfect. We saw the Vol Walk, then got to see the entire band parade along with the alumni band. Afterwords, the wife & I got to watch & listen to the VOL Network pregame show.
I wonder if moving the schedule up will cause the VOL WALK/Band parade to overlap the VOL network pregame show? Any info on that would be appreciated.
