Hello Vol Nation!!

My two best friends and I make an annual pilgrimage to one of "Fall's Cathedrals"... We pick a different college football stadium every year.

This year we are damn excited to be visiting Knoxville for the Bama game this weekend.

We come from Portland Oregon, and consist of two die-hard Oregon State University fans... and one Duck

Part of our tradition involves doing everything that a loyal fan/alumni would do, if they were back visiting their alma mater for the first time in 10 years.

Past trips include visits to Penn State, where we wrangled a private tour of the locker room, and Notre Dame where a generous alumni who had some connections (I met him in a ND forum similar to yours) picked us up at our tailgater in a ND golf cart...and gave us the tour of everything from the Grotto...to TD Jesus.

I'm basically in charge of the trip... and this year the pressure is on. What should I do while in Knoxville to really wow my friends. I am hearing things like "What do you have in store for us this year?"... and..."How can you beat the guided ND golf cart tour"...

Can anyone make any suggestions?

A little about us:

38-40 years old
Huge football fans
Looking forward to having a few drinks with good Tennessee fans!!

I've heard about the Volunteer Navy... any suggestions on how we might become a member? I promise we are not looking for handouts... let us bring some booze and show us what makes being a Tennessee fan great.

We always come away from our trips with the overwhelming feeling that people are very friendly when you make the first effort to extend friendship. I assume that southern hospitality will prevail this year as well.

So... any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

My first suggestion is to sell your tickets to some desperate Bama fans for about $250 each and redivert your trip to Baton Rouge. Assuming you are unwilling to do that, I can only say stay out of East Knoxville if you value your lives. Have fun!

If you show up at Volunteer Landing with some booze, someone on one of those huge houseboats will induct you into the Vol Navy!

Strictly an idea, but you may want to call the Marina at Fort Loudon to see if y'all could hitch a ride with someone coming down for the game on their boat. There are several that commute down from that marina on game day and seeing the stadium from the water is amazing.

Another thing to check out is the Vol Walk a couple of hours before kickoff. The entire team makes the walk to the stadium together through a tunnel of fans. It is pretty cool to see as well.

Best of luck, and I hope you enjoy your trip to K-town!

you will definitely find this in knoxville.

get out there early and make your rounds. hit up the Volunteer Navy and make sure you watch the Vol Walk and the Pride of the Southland Marching Band walk to the stadium. You will hear Rocky Top all day and it never gets old!

p.s. Make sure you hate on Bama and you will fit right in. Go Vols!

if you can pull that off, that's the way to go. to roll up the river as part of the vol navy and dock up at Calhoun's or the Tennessee Grill by the Stadium would be a great experience.

if that didn't work, i'm not sure if you can rent a boat on such short notice, but may be worth checking out.

short of doing that, seeing the vol walk is pretty cool i guess, but there's some good tailgaiting in several spots....there's a big parking garage behind the stadium that a lot of people tailgate at.

then there's always the strip. Cumberland Ave, just off campus is a strip of bars/pubs/retaurants with various parking lots of people tailgaiting on behind some of those establishments.

I've already ordered my Tennessee gear for game day... we will be UT fans head to toe!

I've heard a ton about the Volunteer Navy... where would one show up with booze... and hope for an invite? Is there a main dock?
