Game Thread Lady Vols vs Tennessee State

Alexa also won the “skills competition” at the MD AA event, which is pretty much a competition for PG’s
And
she is the only other player besides Jordan to have more assists than turnovers. . . Also a PG standard.

So maybe she isn’t playing so far out of position after all.
Didn't play the point in high school!

Ugh. All those problems we had before Ariel showed up are going to plague us again. That's all we talked about before Ariel was that we didn't have a good, natural point guard. Simmons was the point, Strickland was the point. All our problems were going to be cured once Ariel took charge at the point. Well, several of our problems did go away when we had a point guard playing point guard but the several problems like bad coaching and lacking a good offense persist.

Come to think about it you are correct!

It's the coaching. Nothing but.

I never understood why Holly moved Ariel off the ball in her senior year and started Jordan at PG. Ariel was a pure PG with much better floor vision. The offense flowed better when she was running the point, and she was a much better passer than Jordan. It never made much sense.

If Tennessee's woes are to be blamed on the lack of a "true" PG, then that's Holly's fault for recruiting combo guards...although personally I think that's an excuse because Middleton, Reynolds and Cooper all had experience playing PG and would look better if there was a better offense in play other than "Inside OUT!!!!" and "READ AND REACT!!!!".

The 5-foot-9 combo guard helped lead Riverdale to back-to-back Class AAA state championships in 2012 and 2013, and a national championship in 2013, where she received the Tennessean Midstate Player of the Year award.

PBVol,surely you know that a combo guard is one who plays point or shooting guard. And Alexa played point at times on her high school team. She may not be as fast as we would like at the point, but she passes well when she doesn't rush or try "showtime" passes.

Oh but she does. She throws some real head scratchers.

but if you think about it, she also throws some amazing in-game passes. She can often get the pass into Cedes because of her "theatric" passes.

What I tell my girls is,

"It ain't showing off , if it is something you practice every practice-session and is a normal part of your regular game"

Alexa uses these passes and practices them.
She made 11 of them for assists this past week.
Not too shabby
