Game Thread: LADY VOLS VS. NO. 13/13 SOUTH CAROLINA

If a team filled with AAs can't suck it up and scrape together three wins against teams at the very bottom of the conference, then they don't care about the program's legacy. And if they don't care about that, they shouldn't be a LV.

It is said that a team reflects the personality of their head coach. Holly has heart and bleeds Tennessee orange, however, does she have the ability to instill that into her players? From the way it looks, the answer is no. Holly's team, especially the last three years, have the same problem, they start out ranked in the top 10 or 15, they play lights out for the first 12 or so games, tease the fans by beating a ranked opponent and then implode as the season goes on. To add salt to the wound, they finish out of the rankings with as much top ten talent as the top ten teams. Holly is grossly underachieving and simply does not show signs of improving. Yes we will all be excited by the incoming recruits and have dreams of a final four team which will eventually turn into another a season ending nightmare.

Looking like LV are gonna miss the NCAA tourney for 1st time in 37 years. What say ye Phil? Still "marching towards the tournaments"?

Unless this team drops one of the next two they aren’t missing the tournament just because they lost to a top 16 team. Please be informed.

Nothing's going to be done about the coaching right now. It's not going to get better and Fulmer's not even going to consider doing anything until after the postseason. So how the LVs finish is up to the players and whether they care enough to carry on the legacy. It's important for the program to make the NCAAT. The players have the power to do that, despite the coaching and the way they've played so far.

They only have to beat two of the bottom three teams in the SEC and a lower-tier team in the SECT and the committee will almost certainly slide them in. They can continue to play horrible, ugly, awful BB and beat three teams who play even worse. That's not much to ask a team of McD's AAs.

In all fairness there was a 12-15 minute stretch where the were invested.

Yes but problem remains that we never play a full 40 minutes... and Holly doesn't help things by saying again after game that she couldn't ask for any more from her players....

Absent a dramatic , great performance in the SEC tourney, and going at least 3 games deep in the NCAAs, I would think (pure conjecture) that a couple/three kids are out of here, and I don't mean our 2 seniors. I mean, wouldn't you?

I dunno...they really seem to like Holly. She hasn't had an Exodus yet, and MR basically threw away her chance to be a top 10 WNBA pick by sticking around to save Holly's job. Alexa is really the only true transfer. 2 were dismissed, and Diamond already technically graduated. Alexa must be thrilled to have escaped this dumpster fire, and for all those saying she wasn't good enough to play for Tennessee, she's doing just fine as the starting PG for a top 20 team.

At this point, maybe the players aren't that interested in winning, and are content with "moral victories" and "A+ for effort!"

However it is really sad that we are at the point where we have to beat losing teams to back into the NCAAs with the talent on this team. Again, leaving it up to the players to get the job done in spite of ineffective coaching is simply sad.

I’ve said this a couple of times as well. Only thing preventing it is that they seem to gel well as a group off the court. Just too bad it doesn’t translate to the games. I would suspect we will lose at least one key player. Both Westbrook and Davis have looked very disinterested at times this season, hard to tell if it’s just the sophomore slump or they’re mind is elsewhere.

Wouldn’t want to speculate, but there are a few very good programs that could use a high profile transfer. Norte Dame and UCONN being two of them.

I hear you & as we have seen in various press conferences that is simply her way. She isn’t going to chide them. Based on her personality as a coach she most likely expects someone else on the staff to take care of that chore. I don’t believe that is part of what she does.

In an ideal sports structure of course you’d want the HC to be the one who can get tough w/ the players and then the Assistants help the bruised egos afterward. This structure is odd in that it appears to be the opposite which has to make the job significantly harder. They are very fragile. They seem to get down on themselves quickly and basically quit on the court at times.

It kind of makes me wonder how their practices go. For example do they get to win all the time in practice? These kids are suppose to be competitor most of them top 25 recruits are you telling me they have never faced adversity before? I doubt it so why so meek now that they are at TN?

I remember watching a Moriah Jefferson interview where they were asking her about the streak and if it was boring and what not and she politely told the interviewer something along the lines of “what you see on TV is the wins, our staff doesn’t let us win in practice” & and Breanna Stewart echoed something along the lines of “We get our ass beat daily”.

They staff has their stuff to work on and so do the players there is enough accountability to go around.

The problem is Holly Warlick and the coaching staff

Seriously, if Reinna Davis hit that girl's hand with her elbow in the process of going up for a shot, shouldn't that be a ... oh, I don't know, what's it called? A FOUL? Isn't that what you call hitting a shooter on the elbow when they're shooting? A FOUL. You morons. You utter morons.
Yes, should have been called a foul...the ref aren't worth a damn anymore...they rely on too many replays in order to get they're calls right...On top of that, Kliney carried her dribble " allday long" right in front of the refs and they never called it...

Rae Burrell in the lineup Meme Jackson out. Kara likes her a lot Rae did a lot of good things today all she need is mins
I agree...she has a nonstop motor...If she were playing at Kentucky or Auburn she'd be on the all-freshman team...

Everyone should look at the box scores after these games, very enlightening. The bad news: SC got 17 pts. off our 16 turnovers, we got 3 off their 6. Fast breaks: they got 16 pts. to our 4. Good news: on 2nd chance pts. we got 19 to their 9. We out rebounded them 44 to 35. You may not be aware, we have been out rebounding almost every team we play. Our Assistant Nicky Anosike (spelling may not be right), used to be a very determined, and therefore a fantastic rebounder, wouldn’t be surprised if she is having a lot to do with our team’s really great rebounding.

Hasn’t rebounding been the staple of LV basketball for like 35 years? That’s like their hallmark. They’ve always done that well. That’s the one stat they lead the SEC in. Anosike being freshly back as a Grad Assistant likely hasn’t changed that. I’m sure she has given some pointers though or at least can give a pep talk or two about it.

You’re right about our great past. NA stated before the National Championship game that she was going to get every rebound (or something close to that), AND she just about did! She was a major factor in her team’s win. I remember her attitude, bet she’s doing way more than giving “pep talks”. Just sayin

To miss 4 bunnies in a row don’t you have to rebound the ball 3 times ? I actually think our offensive rebounding is artificially inflated seriously bc we can’t hit the 1 footers. .yall know what I’m talking bout ....
