Game Thread: LADY VOLS VS. NO. 13/13 SOUTH CAROLINA

That is incorrect. She hit the SC girl's hand with her elbow - the girl's hand snapped backwards and she ended up hitting herself in the face with her own hand from the momentum of the hit. Davis did not hit her head with her elbow - just her hand.

This is exactly what happened.

This is exactly what happened.
I think there's consensus that's what happened, but disagreement as to who the foul should be on. I assume it is on whoever initiated contact, which is why Davis was tagged since she swung her elbow into Cliney's hand, which was stationary.

Ive always thought she should get more mintues. Shes our worst defender so starter idk but 6th man most def

Yep, she gets lost on defense a lot. Some of that falls onto everyone’s shoulders. If you want to be able to sub you have to really talk on the defensive end. Often the starters don’t require as much verbalization because they’re accustomed to playing together. When the freshman come in though they need to be much more vocal about screens and switches.

Phil Fulmer needs to interview UConn assistant coach Shea Ralph or Notre Dame assistant coach Carol Owens when he goes looking for a new women's head basketball coach
Never thought I would say this, but I would take Shea Ralph in a heartbeat. CPF was at the game sitting right behind the bench. Hard to believe even he couldn’t see this train wreck that has become our program.

I agree, Holly is stuck on “Lady Vol Basketball” which is tradiontally paint scoring. The 3 ball was a real strength for this group the first half of the season and was keeping the lane open for the drive. Feels like she coached it out of them.
Based on what they were running at the beginning of the game (Everything through Cheridene) it appeared during the scout they must have felt like their advantage was in the paint. We see how quickly that went to hell.

The second half they did a lot more moving offensively. It was still a bunch of individual plays but they were at least scoring.

It’s almost as if they recruited all these talented parts but are still struggling to get them to play like a team. It requires too much 1 on 1 effort to score.

Defensively I really can’t figure them out. Nothing is effective for them. Their press is slow and apparently not aware of players behind it. Their man is too grabby, wrong footed, and constantly goes under screens, and the Zone is a complete mess because it doesn’t stop 3s or drives to the basket and they don’t rebound well when in it. The only thing they really have is being physical which is likely why the average like 19 or 20 fouls a game.

The game as a whole wasn’t an F they have about 12 minutes of sustained effort but when you think about them trying to get to the NCAAs to come out like they did is rather disappointing. This team is just so fragile it seems. I think Holly gave them 3 or 4 pep talks while she was wired just to get them to even fight.

C’mon man you’re on national tv @ TBA, like Burrell said a few games ago where is your heart?!? It’s like do you want it or not? They gotta stop taking whole halves of games off. As I say that I am reminded there are 2 games left in the regular season so if it hasn’t changed by now it likely won’t. Even still maybe there is some value in this game tape.

The next LV head coach must have a proven record as a winning HC. The UT AD can not gamble on a unproven assistant coach. The assistant could turn out to be a Vic Schaefer or a Holly Warlick or somewhere in between. So you only have a 33-66% chance of getting someone to carry on the legacy of the great Pat Summitt. You have a 95-100% chance if you hire someone like Vic Schaefer or Wes Moore. Sort of like when Alabama hired Nick Saban.

Every Tennessee player who competed from 1976 to 2011 had the chance to play in the Final Four -- counting AIAW and NCAA -- at least once.

This is a blue blood program and for the first time, we are probably not going to make the NCAA tournament. -- not because of injuries or lack of talent. These girls are All-Americans. There is one constant in the downfall of the Lady VOLS since Pat left the team.

And you have to give serious consideration to those outside of the vol family. Can't have your mind focused solely on those who came up through the program.

If a team filled with AAs can't suck it up and scrape together three wins against teams at the very bottom of the conference, then they don't care about the program's legacy. And if they don't care about that, they shouldn't be a LV.
