Game Thread Lady Vols vs Kentucky SEC Tournament Championship Game

It cannot be explained! The officiating was so bad. Izzy got mugged with a forearm to the back as she was being hit with the body by 300 pounder. Burdick expressed her opinion but did not hit anyone and she and the big gal both got a technical. Then immediately they called off-setting technical on Jones and Stallworth for talking. It was unbelievable.

Have seen some very bad officiating, but this one topped them all. Worse than terrible.

who knocked down Harrison. That was a rather key point in your complaint that you failed to mention.

If we were a #2, it's possible we could face UCONN or Notre Dame BEFORE the final 4. It is now NOT possible. That's the main reason we want the #1 seed. Plus, in theory, every game up to the elite 8 should also be a little easier as well as a #1 versus a #2 and upsets DO happen, so every advantage helps.

In the latest Charley Crème bracketology on ESPN,Tennessee could possibly play Baylor in the Elite 8. I'd like to see Tennessee lower the boom on Baylor!

Who plays the point next year? Massengale has had several concussions. I like Reynolds and Carter. Like the way they finish drives.

You gotta like UT's resilience and toughness in this tourney--that was a great win today. But if the Vols are going to beat the any of the top teams (ct, nd, stanford, say), two things must happen offensively:

First, we will have to hit more three pointers. That basically comes down to Simmons making threes. Unfortunately, our best three-point shooter, Mass, is out. We had 1 trey against kentucky. ND and Ct. make a lot of threes. We would never beat either of those teams making one trey unless they had a horrible shooting night--and that is not likely. It doesn't mean that we have to make 8 a game--but it's hard to beat a good team nowadays if you don't hit at least 5 threes.

Second, Burdick, Graves and Jones need to make more shots and contribute more points and thus take some of the scoring pressure off of Harrison. Burdick has a good mid-range game, but we don't seem to focus much on getting shots for her, and her shooting is inconsistent. She needs to score. I don't have much hope for Graves. She did make one 15-footer today in the first half--but she basically only scores when she gets the ball close to the basket and even then she misses a lot. Jones hasn't scratched the surface of her potential. Good size, great athlete, excellent defender, handles the ball reasonably well, gets into the paint area, decent looking jumper--but she came here with a low offensive IQ and she remains very raw. She has the potential to be a major asset but it's just potential right now. I think she should play more and Graves less, frankly. She can do more than Graves.

If we hit several free throws we missed and several layups we missed then we win by double digits. We could never quite get it going today until Reynolds came in and took over for about four minutes of the game. She got us in position to win and Simmons finished the deal at the line and with a clutch layup.

I was worried about conditioning but no more our girls are in top condition. Several players played huge minutes and they were still in there playing hard.

Egad - just read this from beginning to end. Really, people calling out Coach W. and wanting her gone ? Let's see---head coach for 2 years - year # 1 SEC Coach of Year and Year # 2---Sec Tournament Champs and more than likely a # 1 Seed in Tourney.

If only our other teams would do so "badly"

Congrats to our Lady Vols and CHW - SEC Champions ! Great games this weekend - you made us proud !

the way holly behaves, it's obvious she doesn't have much confidence in herself as a head coach.

Lets take look at this year. We win the SEC Tournament and are likely to get a #1 seed in the WNCAA. I think she has coached a pretty good season so far. I think inhere are some Tennessee men fans who don't like for the woman to do well. At least that is what I take from these get rid of Holly posters.

The SEC is rated the best conference in the nation in women's basketball. You win the title in this conference and win 13 games in the regular season you have done some great coaching.

Thanks for the explanation. I saw the thread about Mitchell blaming Burdick for the play and had to shake my head. Since he got to KY, his team's tactics have driven me crazy, and that's not balanced with even grudging respect. Really glad we were able to avenge the earlier loss.

I thought about this the entire weekend, and each time we looked fresh late in the game while our opponent looked tired. Props to our conditioning program.

I think they'll be good in the front court even after Izzy is gone. Russell , Graves and Jones will still there

If Graves had a face up game this team could give UConn and ND a run there money. But the problem with Graves all she do is drive right and just throw the ball up at the basket and the the refs are not gonna give her that anymore. Last year she got a way with it Jones is the same way.

The LVs did what many unexpected and did it by playing hard. 12 turnovers are a big improvement from early on. The height is a big factor and it was MR and Reynolds who stepped up big. Again the unexpected. This is huge going into the NCAA tourney. The bench coming up big and I have to say Carter at the point has alot to do with the LVs winning. TO's are down, she scores when she can and doesnt force the issue. She imo keeps the team calm and under control. Yeah there were some to's yesterday but overall I thought she has done a very good job handleing the team since Ariel went down. Gotta wonder where the LVs would be without her.

So it's a day later and I'm still confused, when and how did Burdick get a technical foul? Where was it in relation to Walker giving Izzy a Western Lariat?

Carter is turning out to be quite the prize. Love how hard and smart she plays.

I think we know how to develop players which should be a good selling point for recruits. Izzy, Carter, Ariel, Russell and Reynolds have all made huge strides. So has Jones.

Burdick had a rough start this year, but has really come on down the stretch. Even Simmons showed me some things this year that we had not seen before with some of the passes she has made and her defense improving a bit.

Whatever we are doing seems to be working.
