You gotta like UT's resilience and toughness in this tourney--that was a great win today. But if the Vols are going to beat the any of the top teams (ct, nd, stanford, say), two things must happen offensively:
First, we will have to hit more three pointers. That basically comes down to Simmons making threes. Unfortunately, our best three-point shooter, Mass, is out. We had 1 trey against kentucky. ND and Ct. make a lot of threes. We would never beat either of those teams making one trey unless they had a horrible shooting night--and that is not likely. It doesn't mean that we have to make 8 a game--but it's hard to beat a good team nowadays if you don't hit at least 5 threes.
Second, Burdick, Graves and Jones need to make more shots and contribute more points and thus take some of the scoring pressure off of Harrison. Burdick has a good mid-range game, but we don't seem to focus much on getting shots for her, and her shooting is inconsistent. She needs to score. I don't have much hope for Graves. She did make one 15-footer today in the first half--but she basically only scores when she gets the ball close to the basket and even then she misses a lot. Jones hasn't scratched the surface of her potential. Good size, great athlete, excellent defender, handles the ball reasonably well, gets into the paint area, decent looking jumper--but she came here with a low offensive IQ and she remains very raw. She has the potential to be a major asset but it's just potential right now. I think she should play more and Graves less, frankly. She can do more than Graves.
