Game Thread Lady Vols vs Auburn

That's more than she's done all season. If she is constantly looking to get open, she should be on the court. If she's content to play hot potato on the perimeter, get her off.

Holly should have been moved Jordan off the ball and only use her on the ball in a pinch. She needs to play the 2/3, the players handling the ball should be Carter, Cooper, Middleton (in that order) Jordan helps us more (and I believe looks to score more) when she doesn't have to set up/start the play.

Normally, I would agree...but she had more assists than Carter, Cooper and Middleton combined in this game. She was pretty solid (for a change).

Middleton and Cooper are the better PGs. I'm not sure how Carter is best used, if only as a defensive spark with limited minutes. Jordan is probably best at the 3, but Nared and Diamond can play that position even better, so I don't know what she does that warrants such extensive minutes.

Hard to get excited about beating Auburn.....LV won't be challenged again until the 18th

There is a huge difference between beating an unranked cupcake like Auburn and defeating a top five team. Strong, well-coached teams will take away Option #1 and Option #2. Can the Vols still win if they have to go to Option #3? Does the team even have an Option #3? How the team performs against Auburn does not predict success in the Final Four. How they play against Notre Dame and South Carolina will be more telling.

The other teams know Cooper has shooting problem so they are willing let her shoot. I can`t believe she took a 10 foot set shot in the lane.

I watched Cooper in warmups before the OSU game. She hit about 12 of 15 threes.

I can't believe in 2015, a highly rated recruit is still shooting set shots. It's bad enough when they do it from the perimeter, but on a midrange, her defender has time to get coffee, do her hair and still block the shot.

That funky form alone should guarantee that she has no professional future. She needs to get that fixed ASAP.

BS, if it goes in the basket, I don't care if she shoots underhand grannie shots. Stop hating on Coop..

The problem is it doesn't go in the basket.

What you're left with is funky form that rarely goes in.

If Cooper could consistently nail that shot in games, no one would be saying anything about her form...until her WNBA tryouts.

I`m Sorry but LMAO ! :lolabove: to funny. But i agree with you her form needs to be fix. I`m shocked no one notice that when she was in high school. she pushes it from her side.

pete maravich used to have all kinds of ways to shoot the basketball, never stopped him from be a scorer.

I'm in the middle on this. I have seen Cooper drain shot after shot in warmups. I, too, don't care what her form is and don't care whether she plays in the WNBA or Mars for that matter after she leaves TN. But as Amb points out - her shot doesn't go in very often in games. Why?

I think there is more at play here than her form. She is impatient, plays in a hurry, and tries to do too much on her own. She only in the last couple of games has shown the ability to tell a good shot from a bad one and when to penetrate and when to back out.

I like that she's aggressive. She can penetrate at will, even against zones. Once the game slows down in her mind and she begins making better decisions, I hope her shooting % improves. If it doesn't, then I'll consider form as a more important issue.

UConn had a player with a similar bunny hop set shot, but she was deadly from behind the arc. She was also supremely easy to shut down because she needed time to get her shot off, and the bunny hop killed her midrange potential...though if teams were stupid enough to leave her to double up on Charles, she would burn them.

Cooper's midrange game is flawed in the same way. She doesn't have a consistent stop and pop pull up jumper. She has to stop, square her feet, then shoot. That takes time, and she doesn't have the luxury of time when the defense is collapsing. She needs to be able to get that shot off more quickly, but consistently.

Time will tell. But form isn't everything. She could have form just as pretty as Carter's is - and be just as poor a shooter. Bottom line is to make the ball go in the goal. Cooper gets off all kinds of shots - so I don't buy the notion that she has a poor fg% because she takes too much time. She is in a hurry. Once she slows down, then we'll be better able to tell if she can or cannot get her shot off and if she can't if it's form-related.

For my money, the form-related issue I want to see fixed is all the one-handed layup attempts. Cooper, DeShields, and yesterday Middleton are all doing it.

Diamond can get away with it since she has such great elevation and can get right to the hoop. That one layup that Middleton made to end the first half was a most bizarre looking shot...

Yes, Reynolds played better last nite, when she was off the ball, in the first half the ball looked like an hot potato, she didn't know what to do, and with Reynolds frame at the high post should be money, when went to the five guard lineup with Graves at the 5, she looked better.

She needs to play her game, she was a midrange, paint point getter machine in high school, I just would like to see that player more often, thats when you know for a lot of our ladies its, mental, we've all seen it before. We've seen them play good before.

She just needs confidence, this whole team needs a shot of sustain confidence.

Go Lady Vols. I back Pat and Roll with Holly!

Shooting comes down to one thing, you ability to focus and confidence, well two things! lol I had people with great form and poor form, none it matter if they didn't have the focus to put the ball in the basket and confidence that they are going to make the shot, most players are too scared too shot, believe it or not!

Scorers are special people.

I back Pat and roll with Holly!

I like Middleton's game. She's one of our better guards, as of right now, but I do think our guards are getting better, Diamond and Draya (didn't look so hawt last night) had 10 turnovers.

Notre Dame, Can the real Lady Vols Please Show UP?

the real lvs that played fl or mizzou?

Actually, I don't think we've seen how good our team can be, the effort for some is still waning, some are still rounding into shape, actually Middleton, Nared, Deshield (she looked explosive at times last nite). If we give the same effort as OSU, Mizzou and Auburn, and play with the same focus as Auburn, the question remains, do our players stick to the game plan or try to out shoot Notre Dame from the 3.

If our ladies stick to the game plan, we will win more game than lose.

Real Lady Vols, ok I still don't know yet, but the ladies who showed up those three games. :)
