Game Thread Lady Vols at Kentucky

Not just Kaela. None of the ladies who also left UNC wanted to join her at Tennessee. And how about all those class of 2016 recruits? There is a pattern here.

Davis is not playing at Tennessee because of her mother. Her mother wants her to be the star. Ask GT fans. They were excited when she picked GT over UT, but when she got there it was a disaster because of the mom. DeShields is a mental case right now. She wants everyone to like her so she's trying to be to unselfish which is leading to turnovers. Holly is telling them to get the ball inside and she is trying to follow the game plan. If we actually ran an offense turnovers would go down. Everything seems one on one. We need a new coaching staff badly!

Yes we do! and Holly wont allow her to play her game. At UNC she was able to play her game and the other girls rallied around her, here Holly wants everybody to rally around Russell and Russell just isn't ready yet

We're trying to win basketball games, and keeping players in the game who are playing badly does not help in that respect. Maybe you missed the first 15 games...

I wonder how many of you are football fans who wouldn't think twice of playing the hotshot rookie QB because he's the future and needs the reps to get better. Cooper's not going to adjust to the college game just by practicing. She needs playing time. Up until these last two games, she didn't play that well, but she was by no means the main reason the team has been struggling. And it's not like the players that weren't playing as much because of her were lighting it up.

I think I understand why Kaela Davis didn't want to play with Diamond. If Diamond doesn't improve her basketball IQ, she will never see her full potential. She is as much of a liability as she is an asset.

You must not have seen Diamond at UNC. she dominated as a freshman. Kaela Davis shot the ball at Ga tech every time she got the ball. Every time and it us not like she shot a good percentage. Diamond will be fine at UT. She just needs a coach.

Carter blew this game--and she is one of the few things I like about this team. Makes a good play to get a rebound off the Cooper miss, has a wide open layup that would have given us the lead with 9 seconds to go, and she somehow tangles her feet, stumbles and misses. Symbolic of this season.

Pat in her prime would practice them until the silly turnover stopped, I would rotate the bench until the turnovers stopped. But the old saying you play like you practice points to coaching. Just saying, it all comes back to not getting enough out of the talent that you have and that is what the staff has done and continues to do. They just aren't getting good enough results. They need a new leader, this team doesn't know how to win period. They are not a good basketball team and they don't deserve a top 25 ranking if you ask me.

They can't get out of their own way, it's very symbolic of their season. The have no desire and they play with no toughness or passion, they have accepted losing.

This is the poorest coached team I have ever seen. There are so many places our coaching is pitiful to mention them all, but why does our big center on defense follow her man so far away from the basket and let the little girl just drive on in....Why not play zone to stop the little girl.....Why is diamond playing like a piece of coal....

This is pitiful in so many places.....But nothing is more pitiful than coaching.

If Geno was the coach of this team we would be a well oiled machine....his team avg 90 points a game!!! In 40 mins!!! He doesn't even have 7 mcdonald AA but we do and struggle so much.....it is just painful

There is more to recruiting then just picking up players that make McD AA list. A focus of UConn's recruiting is getting kids that are able and willing passers. They don't just want the most talented available. To that end all the starters on last years team had over 100 assist. The team 828 assist vs 474 turnovers. While some will want to point at individual plays here and there (Charter missed layup) as the reason for the lost... the 21 turnovers was the biggest factor in the loss to me.

That said they do have 6 McD AA in Stewart, Tuck, Jefferson, Williams, Samuelson, Collier... would have 7 if Boykins didn't transfer.

Yes, I saw Diamond play at UNC and I saw Kaela live many times. Kaela was not a problem at GT. If people think she was, they never watched her play much. I know the history with Kaela's mom and all that but I'm telling you there was a reason behind some of it and it wasn't all about her wanting Kaela to be the only shining star. I'll just leave it at that. Diamond has exceptional skills but she needs major work in other areas. She has to be the most frustrating player I've ever watched at UT.

Carter miss the shot but Graves can not get her shot block that easy she must get foul or make the put back. But remember Graves get her shot blocked a lot. To me Holly should have played N.Moore more, So what she had a turnover how many did the other players have.

Who cares about Geno? This is a LADY VOL FORUM. It was so depressing on here last I had to leave here and not come back. Other forums couldn't talk worse about out team as this site does. Come on people get behind our Ladies.

Terrible that we had to depend on a comeback in the fourth quarter. Come out and play a decent third quarter and it means very little in the fourth. We had a seven point lead and we gave that up to a five point deficit in the third. Then a bad lineup to start the fourth. We finally got clicking when we went to the press in the middle of the fourth quarter. Why not press in the third or the whole game. Maybe were not in shape to do that.

Now that I think about it....who in the hell was supposed to be guarding Epps this game? If this was Carter's defensive assignment, it once again proves how much of a mediocre defensive player Carter really is!

That seemed to me to be one of the worst KY teams I can remember and they still beat us.

Despite the pretty bad game they played, they still had several opportunities to win. Not one but TWO missed free throws less than a minute AND a missed layup that would have given us the lead. Top it off with a Freshman having the ball in her hands in the last 4.5 seconds and she dribbles it the length of the floor without so much as a shot. Someone has to tell them about time management. Why does a Freshman have the ball there? Ugh.

For those of you who don't want to believe Holly's coaching (or lack thereof) is the major problem with this Lady Vols team, look at our third quarters. We rarely come out of the halftime locker room prepared, motivated or focused. That's on the coach. I think Holly needs to go out for a burger at the half and give her players a break.

Holly's substitution patterns and head games have demolished this team's chemistry and confidence. DD is a shadow of herself, guessing every move on the court due to ai clueless, irrational coach. Most of the guards are hesitant to take an open shot, and they are forcing the ball where it can't go unless motion is involved, with screens, backdoor opportunities and crisp passing.

I see fight in the team but low basketball iq. The fight is self taught. Low iq points to coaching.

Did anyone notice in the final quarter when the shot clock ran out during a possession, not only did the players not realize, neither did the head coach. Not good!

Holly must go! Now. Please.

Yeah, we lost but Kentucky looked pretty crappy most of the night. I agree M Russell needs to toughen up. She clearly has skills and with her agility she could be a monster. She reminds me of Tina Charles who gave Geno fits the first 2 years. Remember what a knuckle headed player she was the first year? All kinds of errors!

We have some growing pains with this group. Stanford, Kentucky, DePaul and Oklahoma are each in the same boat.

Akator will make Russell look like an elementary school post player and Epps will Euro-step us into a virtual coma. Matt will be pissed over the Ole Miss game and have his players ready to eat nails. I would like to see a win, or even a close game, however, we might be in deep crap. Hope for the best but do not be surprised if the worse happens.
