Game Thread: (21/21) Lady Vols at (22/23) Georgia

If we get one of the 4 seeds it only shows the whole country is weak this year.

LOL πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

If the WHOLE COUNTRY is weaker then everybody is on an even playing field and everybody is level. So again, we would just be doing what we are supposed to do.

I can see how the whole country could be weaker due to the pandemic but no team is exempt from this global pandemic so if they get a top 4 seed they have placed themselves in a position to have earned it

Hey, that means we're less weak than most of the other weak teams.

Might as well cancel the conference and national tournaments since no team deserves to be awarded a championship this year. Everybody being weak this year.

In fact, the record keepers should go back and scrub champions from all of the weak years.

( Sorry, Geno).

This game was lost in the first half. The LVs have to score more than 19 points in any half if they want to win a game. I believe this is a solvable problem. I hope Kellie can find a way to solve this scoring problem.

A 4 seed would mean we are one of the top 16 teams in the country. Are you seeing that? Did you see that today?

Maybe consistency will be the next step, don;t see why they wouldn't be able to get there on the current trajectory.

Their current trajectory is losses in three of their past four games. Even Holly pulled a great win out of her butt every so often, consistency was supposed to be why Kellie is different...

Please, would somebody cherrypick the best Horston stats.
Is this the same Horston who played well against Dawn's Sputtering Chickens?

Holly would lose to far inferior teams on a routine basis, and she had no wins against teams ranked ahead of them in her last two seasons. Kellie has already surpassed that. Her "bad" losses in two years were against LSU last season, WVU and UGA 2x...where 3 of those are against teams that are ranked in the same ballpark. So Kellie HAS been consistent. It's not like the annual losses to Chattanooga and Alabama that were the hallmarks of a Holly Warlick season.

Kellie coached the GA game just as she did the SC game. Her coaching strategy is sound despite my criticisms of her coaching. She gets mixed results from her players from game to game. I don't know why.

It's so gratifying to see that Coach Warlick has an agent working so hard to procure a new P-5 head coaching position.

Tennessee goes as Rennia, Rae and Tamari go. Anything from Jordan is just a bonus. Unfortunately, Rae had her worst game of the season and Tamari slipped back to some of her more passive habits from earlier in the season.

Good analysis, Amb3096. Especially the comment about Rae had her worst game of the season.

Missed seeing Emily in the game since only got home from church in time to see end of 1st quarter. Surprised to see that she got two rebounds in only a minute of play.

This is using hindsight knowing how poorly we shot in the first half...and trying not to second-guess Kellie since she and the staff get to see their players every day in practice...but still feel that using one sub at a time to give a starter valuable minutes of rest and regain composure might work to the team's advantage in games like these.

Marta obviously needs some time to heal, so that leaves Destiny with the bulk of the sub minutes. We can only wonder if Jessie, Emily, and Tess could have held their own enough...and maybe even made contributions to the stat sheet...to perhaps have made a difference.

That, and the failure to use time outs to try to regroup during the early drought and Georgia run, are the only criticisms I have of the coaching decisions.

I agree with you 100% Davis should have shot the ball it was a layup also the game announcers said the same thing. Rae hurt this team more today then Davis i think force shots losing the ball, And for what reason kept trying to shot over a 6-5 player after they stuff your shot twice in a row then she tried a 3rd time.
Worse game for Rae in a long time! Stayed frustrated the whole game but the game was rough and like most all of basketball the theory is be bad and the refs cant call all of them!

Exactly,,,it just happened when everyone else was having a worst game too. Rae will shine again...Kids like Rae don't settle for "Oh well, tha is just how this game's gonna go" attitude.

She is the type of player that will try to do too much instead of watching everyone else not doing anything.

She'll be fine...She knows how to put the last game behind her and not dwell on it

Emily played really well for that minute. A couple more could not have hurt.

Finally got to see this game.....
Mercy me, that was some ugly basketball, by both teams.

A few of my observations:
The first half, especially the first quarter, may have been the ugliest basketball I have ever seen....Running the offense through KK may not be the best idea...She lost the ball four consecutive times....She is not an offensive threat, at least not this day...

For most of the game, Rae was stuck in second gear and couldn't get going...She had a hard time being the Rae we have been use to seeing...This was not her day.

Key has the worst luck with referees...She gets calls for the tiniest infractions, while her counterparts knock her around with no whistle....If she would at least show some emotion, or anger, at these stupid calls, it might at least intimidate someone....She too often has that beat down look...

Late in the game, Davis dribbled under the basket and had a big passing turnover, instead of taking her patented baseline shot when she was open.....

Based on the way the ball reacted on Davis's final shot, there is a good chance she was fouled and it was never called...Never seen Davis shoot a 3 point air ball before...At Georgia, not likely to get that call....

Horston has had better games, and hopefully will again someday....She shoots those floaters with a nice arc, but rarely scores with them...Her pull up shots are often to flat, with little arc....She too often hits the back of the rim (bricks) on these shots, which proves with a little more arc they would be net rippers. Not sure she "feels the shot."

Next season we will have at least 4 scorers on the floor at all times...Today's squad usually only has 2 scorers on the floor at the same time...If one is having an off day, forget about it.

Today, was just another day closer to getting some real exciting freshmen scorers wearing the Lady Vol Colors...Will be a much better offensive team..

Nobody has a winning road record in the SEC except South Carolina and Texas A&M and they've had their struggles to win games on the road some very close calls for both of them in several games. Tennessee seems to be able to win the last three minutes of close games at home but not on the road. We lost late to A&M was one possession at two minutes to play. Had the chance to win or tie at Georgia yesterday and lost at Kentucky in the last three or four minutes when they hit four consecutive threes. We were able to win handily on the road at Bama and won a close one at LSU. The road is tough in the SEC all but two teams have losing records. We have one more tough one coming up it would give us a 3 and 3 road record totally acceptable in the SEC this season with our current talent level. Only one team will end up with just one loss in the SEC this season. If we could end with four would be a huge step up from last season when we didn't win a quadrant one game and have already won 6 this season. We have already went far from what Holly pulled off in her last season when she had several more 5 star players long transferred and went 7 and 9. Anyone comparing what is happening now to then don't know what they are talking about as far as progression of the team from then to now there is really no comparison.

Didn't Holly lost 7 straight to the worst teams. Who is even mentioning her.

Beating a top five team, then looking that unprepared against a team you should beat reeks of Hollyball. Now all that positive momentum for the program, and Kellie having any chance at SEC COY... gone.

Disappointing, but not all that surprising...
