Why does it seem that we enter almost every game with an offensive and defensive game plan designed for a team we aren't playing?

The GT game was no exception.. They beat us like a drum with our defense appearing to be schemed against a junior high school T-formation that no one runs anymore. Throughout 90% of the game GT ran through holes spacious enough for Abrams Tanks to operate.

Our offense looked completely impotent in the first half but moved the ball much better once adjustments were made at half time to an offense designed to operate against GT.

Hopefully, we can work out some kinks and come up with some workable blocking assignments our linemen can accomplish in our upcoming game against the Sycamores...

The issue was our D didn't make any adjustments. Looked basically like a base d with the ends playing heads up. O adjusted nicely.

The game plan will be to hold them to fewer points, and us to score more points.

Regrettably, that is how our game plans often appear... A couple of times, I have thought the entire game plan to be for our guys to all run out on the field at the same time and to hold the opponents to 0 points until the opening kickoff.

Georgia Tech was basically running on first and second down so eight in the box close to the line of scrimmage and play all the options. We got off to a good start doing that and made them have to throw unfortunately Martin couldn't stop the pass.

Yeah, I thought our game plan looked really fine in the first two Ga Tech possessions.

They went 3 and out (run for 4, run for 3, run for 1, punt) ... and then 3 and out again (run for 2, run for 0, run for 1, punt).

So our game plan going in was working lights out well.

Then Paul Johnson started calling up counter plays, I think. I don't know that for sure, haven't really looked at the tape yet (waiting for Freak to cut in all our defensive plays, haha, don't ban me Freak!). Coach Johnson did something to tweak their offense. And that's when they started getting yards.

And at some point later on, our coaches made a counter-adjustment out of concern for the health of our players. I guess they saw Ga Tech's offense kicking in with massive amounts of cut blocks, because our DC and DL coaches ordered our lads a yard and a half back off the ball, in their stances. That gave Ga Tech a cushion, an extra few yards on every play, which meant they were sustaining drives much easier. It was a "bend but don't break" approach on our behalf. We wanted healthy defenders going into SEC play in a couple of weeks, while still not giving away big chunk yardage plays.

And it worked, too. In spite of the gaudy yardage they put up on us, they still never got more than 2 TDs ahead. We were always in striking distance, the whole game, as miserable as I'm sure we all felt about being behind, heh.

So I'm not ready to say that our initial game plan wasn't good. In fact, it looked VERY good. And you can argue with the adjustments made, but hey, they resulted in a W and very few injuries, so they kinda seem brilliant after the fact.

The GT Oline was taking huge splits that help them with diving at our knees and ankles.

This is without a doubt the funniest question to lead a post I've read in at least 3-4 years. :good!:

You want to see why we struggled with our original gameplan against GT?

Watch that video. An LSU fan made it about the GT vs Tennessee game.

The fact that we didn't come out of that game with 6 knee injuries is amazing. That was the real win Monday night.

Same guy, different video, but he really goes in on how dirty of a game GT plays, he is the dad of a football player and he talks about how despicable it is to leg tackle guys and says "don't go for my sons knees. Just don't do it, I might have to run out on the field!"

Watch those videos. Both are good.

Jumper bless his heart on multiple occasions in that short clip. We didn't handle cut blocking or stsy in our lanes. Once we over perused he would call a counter

He's right tho. If the refs would've called even just a few chop blocks we would've been watching at a completely different game. I knew they were doing that but not the extent. Insightful video.
