Game day tips?

Headed to Knoxville from California in November to catch the game against Mizzou. Lifelong vol fan but never been to Neyland. Any tips on restaurants, bars, tailgates events etc that I shouldn’t miss?

The strip has numerous bars/restaurants to choose from. A lot of tailgating takes place in parking pass lots, you can usually find people selling those. Church Street United Methodist Church offers parking (I think its $25 a pop), a lot of folks tailgate there as well. Vol Village has a lot of pregame events for fans. If you're not already planning on it (you should be), get to the Vol Walk as early as you can; watch the POtS march into the stadium. You'll find a lot of times for Vol Walk, etc. on the official social media pages, and I'm sure folks will be posting about it on here.

If you are driving (rental car): Try parking under the overpass beside Barley's taproom down in the Old City. Eat and drink there, take the shuttle to the stadium and back. Head out after the game down Magnolia Ave, less traffic.

If you are taking taxi: Good luck. ;-)

My wife and I park at the Locust Street Garage. About $20 to park and an easy walk to the stadium( less than a mile). If you arrive early enough, the garage is very close to shops and restaurants in Market Square Mall and on Gay Street. We usually eat at the Downtown Grill & Brewery on Gay Street. I personally would not take shuttle buses. Very convenient before games, but long and unorganized lines after games.

Any of you old timers remember the L&N bar? (circa 1972) . Sam and Andys was a real deli just off the strip.

I would highly recommend getting there early and parking at the State Street parking garage behind Gay street. It is free on the weekends. You will be in walking distance to Market Square, then only a 10-15 min walk to the stadium. I usually get there early, grab brunch at Cafe 4, then head down to Neyland area to watch Pride of the Southland and the Vol Walk.

Use the "I'm from California and never been to Neyland" schtick and have someone welcome you into their tailgate. TN folks are kind and generous, it will work. There is no bar or restaurant that is better than a great tailgate before a game. Also, take a moment to soak it in. Like most things in life, the first time is one not forgotten.

Do you remember George? He was always behind the bar and knew instantly what you would have to drink and have it sitting on bar as soon as you walked in. Where I grew up loving UT football. Man, miss seeing that place on strip and him with my dad. Still enjoy it in Farragut. Not the same, though .

You definitely have to eat at Littons in Fountain City. Not too far...maybe 8 miles but well worth it. A lot of out of town media eat there as well. Have met a number of former vols there on or near gameday.

Really good burger, no frills, just a good tasty burger. Must do on anyone’s bucket list:
