Coming from hell (GA) and looking forward to the beginning of a new era. So for a 12:20 start, when should we arrive? Any special events on that day we should know about? Any advice to make opening day special would be appreciated.

I have been to 3-4 games in the last couple of years, but they were all much later start times. We are planning on staying in Chattanooga friday night...then driving up Saturday AM early.

I plan on leaving Johnson City around 6 AM, being in Knoxville tailgating with a beer in hand by 8 AM. Yes, I said beer in hand at 8 AM. It wouldn't be tailgating otherwise. I will probably fire up the grill around 9.

How early are some of you guys setting up?

Damn, I'd love to be there. First game of the season should be a blast. I'll be catching the UGA and Auburn games, I'm fairly certain, in which I will buy a round for whoever!

Regardless, whatever time you think sounds comfortable for you to arrive on Saturday, go ahead and f that noise and arrive on Friday.

I'm going to the Big Orange Blast Friday night and staying at the Holiday Inn Friday and Saturday night. Plan on hitting up the strip before and after the game. If you're into country music, which I am not, Sara Evans is gonna be the concert for the Big Orange Blast. Should be fun anyways!

you obviously have to be there for the vol walk around 10:15-10:30. its been moved to 1hr 45min before kickoff, with the band coming down andy holt immediately after. lane's first vol walk will be awesome!

Are you buying into any of the noise KPD was making during the offseason about cracking down on alcohol at tailgates?

Has anyone heard anything further about that?

We'll start setting up in G-10 around 6, literally.

I don't know what to make of it. I'm sure they'll "crack" down, but when they start driving off tailgaters, the businesses around the strip will complain about it.

I'm not really worried about it. I really believe as long as you don't get drunk and crazy and make a scene it won't be a problem.

but this will be the first time I will be coming in from the north. Normally I come up from Chattanooga and I know the back roads to get me to the Ag Campus area and find parking around there.

But this game I'll be coming from Maggie Valley, NC. Any suggestions as to route and parking?

dude you're picking a helluva 1st vol walk. the best place, imo, is to get somewhere on the corner of peyton manning pass and phil fulmer way (right in front of the middle of the stadium). thats where the vol walk makes the turn and if you get on the "parking lot" side of the corner, you're pretty close when the cops make you back up. then you can get across the parking lot quickly to get to see the band come down andy holt to gate 21. I cant friggin wait!!!!:dance2:

obtw, peyton pass is just to my left in my avatar. the 'pep' band will set up right in there across the road. that corner under my right arm is where i am talking about standing, where the little stripes are on the road. lol. i will be there about 10 est on sept 5th. wearin a buncha orange with wife and 2 boys in tow!! WHOOOOOOOOOO!

Well, i usually tailgate, but I'm not one for the early games, so I think I am just going to forgo setting up my tailgate and just get there in plenty enough time to see the vol walk! Should be one of the best Vol Walks in the history of the tradition!

location, location, location... if we didn't get there that early to get our spot, somebody else would. we set up in the G-10 lot (not the deck), on top of that one-story garage, I think it's Thunder who parks his RV there. So we're set-up and having a beer by the time the fog rolls off the river. It's great! the spot is literally right between the river and Neyland, with bathrooms 30 yards away.
